Oyster Point residents can enjoy the outdoors at Murry Ridge Park. This small, quiet neighborhood park has a playground for kids, a basketball court and a large open lawn perfect for tossing a frisbee. There’s also a half-mile walking path for some fresh air and exercise. Lake Grubb Nature Park is another green space with scenic walking trails, a tranquil lake for anglers, and a playground. Oyster Point is also home to the Hempfield recCenter, with amenities like a fitness center, an indoor pool and tennis courts. Stoltz notes that the center is known for hosting professional tournaments like The Landisville Pro Circuit. Members also have access to the East Petersburg Community Pool. Next door is the Four Seasons Golf Club, a public 18-hole golf course, while other outdoor recreation is nearby. “We’re also close to the Susquehanna River for hiking and fishing and the mountains for skiing,” says Matt Helsel, Realtor with Iron Valley Real Estate of Lancaster, who has 24 years in the industry.Dual enrollment at Hempfield High
The community is part of the highly rated Hempfield School District, graded A-minus on Niche. Younger students may attend the A-minus-rated Centreville Elementary School before moving to the A-rated Centreville Middle School. Hempfield High School also earns an A-minus. Teens at Hempfield High can earn college credits through 23 different Advanced Placements courses or dual enrollment courses in partnership with nearby institutions like Elizabethtown College, Harrisburg Area Community College and Millersville University.Live performances at the Fulton Theatre
Entertainment options range from family-friendly activities like corn mazes and hayrides at Corn Cob Acres to musical performances and festivals like Celebrate Lancaster in the city. “There are tons of different restaurants that feature live music and outdoor seating,” Helsel says. “We also have the Fulton Opera House, which is one of the longest-running theaters in the nation.” Also known as the Fulton Theatre, its inception dates back to the mid-1800s when it was built on the grounds of Lancaster’s pre-revolutionary jail. Today, performances include family-friendly plays like Peter Pan and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Closer to home, the Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre has been drawing crowds for nearly 40 years for its range of classic and contemporary musical productions.Quick drives to Lancaster City
Public transit options include bus routes along Stony Battery Road and Indian Springs Drive. Lancaster’s Amtrak Station is just 6 miles away. Penn State Health Lancaster Medical Center is also 3 miles away. However, most residents are likely to get around by car, and they can take Marietta Avenue to get downtown. Highway 30 borders Oyster Point to the south, leading to major commercial areas around Rohrerstown, about 5 miles east. Harrisburg International Airport is less than 30 miles away for domestic flights, but international travel requires connecting flights or a longer drive to Philadelphia or Baltimore airports.Roadside farmstands and chain stores
Roadside farmstands range from Amish-owned markets that have been around for decades to Schopf Brothers Farm, which sells everything from fresh produce and florals to pumpkins and Christmas trees. “Mom-and-pop shops are big around here,” Stoltz says. “Residents often opt to shop locally. There’s an Amish-owned roadside stand close to my house, and I go there a lot for farm fresh eggs, meats and homemade cookies.” Just 6 miles away is the Lancaster Central Market, the country’s oldest continuously running farmers market. Chain grocers like Giant and Weis Markets are also close by, along with retailers like BJ’s Wholesale Club and Target. Stoltz notes that Oyster Point has a few restaurants and bars, but most people head downtown for a night out. “LUCA is a popular pizzeria, and 401 Prime is an upscale steakhouse that everyone knows about,” Stoltz says. Closer to home, Loxley’s Restaurant and Patio Bar offers a cozy ambiance in a rustic, mountain-style chateau. Centerville Diner is the go-to spot for brunch dates, and Grand Central Bagel serves up classic bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches.Religion in Oyster Point
