Minnetrista Museum & Gardens

A mile south, Minnetrista Museum & Gardens’ 40-acre campus is free for the public to enjoy, with the exception of certain ticketed exhibitions. Feature programs include the Bob Ross Experience, which celebrates the famous painter who filmed his iconic TV series in Muncie. “Downstairs, you can see the set, and upstairs is the full gallery,” says Brea Cunningham, Minnetrista’s director of marketing and communications. “We have a program where people can do Bob Ross workshops by certified Bob Ross instructors.” Additional programming includes a weekly farmers market on Saturdays in the summer and seasonal events throughout the year. “We have a Garden Fair each year,” Cunningham says. “It’s a celebration of all things horticulture. We have live music, plant sales, vendors and food trucks. People can learn and purchase plants. You can see how they’re grown, and you can take something home.” On any regular day, visitors can explore its walking paths, herb garden, treehouse and more.

Proximity to BSU, IU Health Memorial Hospital and downtown Muncie

Cowing Park is a somewhat walkable neighborhood a mile north of Ball State University and 2 miles north of downtown Muncie. Residents can walk for 20 minutes or bike for 5 minutes to get to Ball State, or they can drive for 6 minutes, bike for 12 or take the MITS bus for 25 minutes to get into downtown. IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital is 2 miles southwest – a 10-minute drive, 15-minute bike ride or 35-minute bus ride. When traveling out of town, residents can fly out of the Fort Wayne International Airport, 63 miles north, or the Indianapolis International Airport, 79 miles southwest.
