Sky Park is anchored by Muncie’s food and retail hub
Restaurants, shopping and recreation are all within reach of Sky Park thanks to its proximity to McGalliard Road. Bordered by the Cardinal Greenway to the west and the Muncie Mall to the east, Sky Park balances quiet residential streets with ample shopping and dining on Muncie’s north side. “When customers and clients, and even people from out of town, are looking to relocate, they look for convenience as much as anything, and when you look at Sky Park, it is convenient,” says Rich Lee, associate Realtor with Re/Max Real Estate in Muncie. The neighborhood is also within a 10-minute drive of downtown Muncie and Ball State University.
Sky Park is a residential neighborhood that sits south of the Delaware County Airport.

McGalliard Road, Muncie’s shopping and dining center
McGalliard Road is Muncie’s major shopping and dining corridor and serves as Sky Park’s southern border. The roadway is lined with fast-food franchises and casual sit-down restaurants like Olive Garden and Texas Roadhouse. While national brands dominate McGalliard, there are a handful of local spots within a mile or two. Puerto Vallarta is Muncie’s Mexican restaurant of choice with three locations across the city, including one on Wheeling Avenue. Sunshine Café, about 2 miles away, is a breakfast staple for locals and BSU students alike.Residents can walk to Aldi, and Fresh Thyme Market and Pay Less are a few minutes away. Retail shopping is close, too. The Muncie Mall has about 20 stores, while Muncie Plaza has Old Navy, Kohl’s and T.J. Maxx. Target and Dick’s Sporting Goods are adjacent to the mall.

Midcentury single-family homes and condos
Homes on Muncie’s north side tend to cost more, and Sky Park is no exception. The median price is $145,000, which is higher than nearby Cowing Park and Anthony-Northside, but less than neighboring Northview. The community has a mix of single-family homes and condos, some with attached garages. Bungalows, split-levels and ranch-style homes built between the 1950s and ’70s make up most of the neighborhood, but there are some newer homes in subdivisions like 5K Estates. Small cottages and bungalows can cost between $80,000 and $130,000, while larger homes with attached garages can range from $140,000 to $200,000. Newer homes and condos can cost between $200,000 and $300,000.

Traffic on McGalliard fluctuates
While the residential side streets are quiet, McGalliard Road often has a steady stream of traffic. “We joke about ‘Oh, I’m stuck in traffic on McGalliard,’ but the reality of it is we don’t have the issues that our neighbors like Indianapolis or Fort Wayne have,” Lee says. “When you live in Delaware County, you’re 10 to 15 minutes from anything.” A traffic signal at the intersection of Walnut and McGalliard makes it easier to get in and out of the neighborhood. Walnut Street also has a sidewalk and two Muncie Indiana Transit System (MITS) bus stops. Downtown Muncie is 2 miles away, while Ball State University and IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital are less than 4 miles away.
Minnetrista has 40 acres to explore
Hikers and bikers can access the Cardinal Greenway from the McGalliard Road trailhead. This 62-mile recreational trail follows an old railroad corridor that stretches from Marion to Richmond, Indiana. The closest green space is Halteman Park, which has a playground and splash pad. Scheumann Stadium, home of the Ball State Cardinals, is 10 minutes away.Minnetrista Museum and Gardens is a Muncie gem less than five minutes away. The Ball family, makers of the namesake glass mason jars and founders of Ball State University, used to live on the grounds. Most of the original Ball family homes still stand, and visitors will find multiple gardens throughout the 40-acre campus with native plants, flowers and culinary herbs. Minnetrista sells fresh-pressed apple cider at The Orchard Shop during the fall, and locals look forward to the Enchanted Luminaria Walk each winter.
