Los Alamos Hills
Mountain views near a popular sports park
The scenery of the Murrieta Hogbacks surrounds Los Alamos Hills. “I wouldn’t say it has a neighborhood feel—it’s very mixed. There are mobile homes next to newer houses and some older, worn homes,” says Tracy Bernal, a Realtor with Exp Realty of California who has lived in Murrieta her whole life. Mediterranean residences, built from the 1980s to the mid-2010s, range from $565,000 to $600,000 for 1,200 square feet. For larger, renovated properties on multi-acre lots, prices can climb from $800,000 to $1.6 million. On average, homes stay on the market for 38 days, and property taxes tend to run higher than the national average.Easy access to hiking at Santa Rosa Plateau Ecological Preserve
Los Alamos Hills Sports Park is the central gathering spot of the community, with a large parking lot and looped trail. “On weekends and Friday nights, so many kids play football and soccer. It’s always full of activity,” Tracy Bernal says. “There are turf fields, too. Our kids have done soccer camps there over the summer. It’s a nice area.” The neighborhood is about 6 miles from Santa Rosa Plateau Ecological Preserve. Spanning 9,000 acres of Engelmann oak, residents can access over 50 miles of rocky trails for a daily fee.Local dining in Murrieta and nearby Old Town Temecula
The neighborhood is just 4 miles from Old Town Murrieta. “It’s small, just one block long, but it has a rustic feel with great family-owned restaurants,” Tracy Bernal says. “The Mill is historic and popular. It’s casual with Italian food, and everything is made fresh. People also love Anthony’s Lounge, right next to it.” She adds that Old Town Temecula is a bit larger, with three times as many restaurants and shops, just 7 miles away. Several shopping centers line the 215 freeway, with grocery stores like Stater Bros. Markets and Grocery Outlet nearby. The neighborhood is also 2 miles from Costco Wholesale, Target and Home Depot.Fireworks and art markets downtown
Town Square Park is a central hub for events in Murrieta. “They host a handful of events throughout the year, including car shows, and on Thursdays, they have market nights,” Tracy Bernal says. “There’s also a Fourth of July celebration. It’s honestly the best fireworks show I’ve ever seen.”STEM programs within an A-rated school district
Murrieta Valley Unified School District has an A on Niche, ranking it the top district in Riverside County with over 22,000 students enrolled. Rail Ranch Elementary School and Shivela Middle School have an A-minus rating. Vista Murrieta High School has an A rating and is among the top 5 high schools in the county. The high school offers eight Career and Technical Education pathways in its state-of-the-art building, including programs in Engineering and Architecture, Arts Media Entertainment and Education.Working in San Diego and Orange County
Traffic congestion on Interstates 215 and 15, known locally as the 215 and 15 freeways, is common during working hours due to Murrieta’s role as a commuter town. “Some people commute to San Diego and some commute to Orange County. With COVID, many people started working remotely,” Shane Bernal says. He notes that, depending on the time of day and route, the drive can take up to two hours one way. Southwest Healthcare Rancho Springs Hospital is 3 miles away, and John Wayne Airport is 65 miles away.
