The Colony
Suburban Neighborhood in Murrieta, California
Riverside County 92562
New traditional '90s homes
The Colony has three private entrances, one staffed by 24/7 guards and adorned with towering palms and a waterfall. The wide residential streets wind gently along neat rows of 1990s new traditional homes with Mediterranean-style elements like terracotta-tiled roofs, arched details and stucco facades. These two- to three-bedroom homes have layouts ranging from 950 to 2,100 square feet, and depending on a home's size and renovations, prices typically range from $520,000 to $650,0000; homes set around the golf course range from $650,000 to $700,000. The Colony Homeowners Association keeps yards and public areas well-manicured, and monthly fees range from $200 to $250.Dog-friendly parks and a public golf course
Miles of walking and biking paths stretch throughout the community, leading to the clubhouse, shared pool and spa area. Residents can tee off at the 18-hole, par 70 California Oaks Golf Course, which dominates much of the community's southern half. Glen Arbor Park is popular with local dog owners for its easy walking trail; the park also has athletic fields where residents can play some ball, and a playground where visiting children can burn off some energy.Interstate 15 connects to nearby cities
The Colony is bordered east by California Oaks Road, which leads about a half mile south to Interstate 15; the 15 leads about 8 miles south to Temecula, 50 miles north to Ontario and 55 miles north to Orange County. Interstate 215 is set about 2 miles west. While the neighborhood is considered somewhat bikeable, residents can take the Las Vegas Shuttles from Hancock Avenue to Temecula; the Metrolink to Riverside leaves from the same stop. The closest hospital, Loma Linda University Health-Murrieta, is about 4 miles northeast. The Ontario International Airport is about 45 miles north.Temecula's growing wine scene
The closest shopping and dining are found along California Oaks Road, at The Colony's southeastern end. The California Oaks Center here includes a Barons Market grocery store, Walgreens and the local Hana Sushi Murrieta, as well as fast-casual dining options like Tropical Twist Juice Bar & Café and Menchie's Frozen Yogurt. Other nearby grocery stores include Albertson's and Ralph's.Temecula offers a lot more commercial action, 8 miles south of The Colony. The Promenade Temecula mall has over 160 stores and eateries, including Macy’s, Lululemon and the local Afters Ice Cream, while Old Town Temecula offers a small nightlife scene, with wineries and restaurants. Big Nose Winery and Temecula Wine & Beer Garden are both set along Old Town Front Street, serving up sparkling whites and dry reds. More of Temecula's wineries line Rancho California Road, 11 miles south of The Colony; locals can take in vineyard views at Miramonte Winery or grab a signature wine slushie at Bel Vino.
Prone to droughts
The Southern California climate is prone to long-term droughts, which often result in wildfires. In 2023, a wildfire spread to the mountains southeast of Temecula, causing many residents to evacuate their farms and ranches. Then in 2024, Murrieta became one of 11 California cities designated a Fire Risk Reduction Community, so residents here may get reductions on their fire insurance premiums. The closest fire station to The Colony is Murrieta Fire Station #2, set just east of the neighborhood.
