Campbell Field
Suburban Neighborhood in Muskegon, Michigan
Muskegon County 49441
Modest bungalows and brand-new homes
Campbell Field's straight residential streets are predominantly lined with bungalows and ranch-style homes from the early 1900s to 1940s. They're built on approximately 0.15-acre lots with fenced backyards. Bungalows typically have open or enclosed front porches, while ranch styles have an attached garage in the front or a detached garage in the back. Both styles of homes can be anywhere from 600 to 2,000 square feet, with prices ranging from $100,000 to $220,000. The neighborhood has a few empty lots, starting to fill with new Craftsman-style houses. With bright vinyl siding and white trim, these three-bedroom homes were built for immediate occupancy and feature modern interiors and attached garages. They're similarly priced at under $280,000. There are also a few low-rise apartment complexes with their own leafy green spaces.Plans for restorations at neighborhood's namesake park
The neighborhood's namesake park, Campbell Field, is slated to receive restorations. The 9.5-acre park has a softball field, playground equipment and a large field. In 2024, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee approved a plan to make improvements based on feedback from the community. Residents voted to remove the softball field and replace it with a meadow of native Michigan plants. They also want updated playground equipment, a picnic shelter and walking paths with fitness stations. There is no set date for when the park will be renovated.Home to Michigan's top K-12 private school
Students may attend Muskegon Catholic Central, which is located in the neighborhood. It earns an A-minus grade from Niche and is ranked the best K-through-12 private school in the Grand Rapids region. As of 2024, tuition is $5,510 to $9,950 a year, depending on the grade level. Those who are members of a parish within the Diocese of Grand Rapids receive $1,600 in tuition assistance. Muskegon Public Schools has a school choice program for elementary students, based on capacity and sometimes relies on a lottery system when demand exceeds capacity at a particular school. Parents and caretakers may choose to send their children to Glenside Elementary, the nearest to the neighborhood. The school doesn't have a Niche grade, but it stands out with its Two-Way Language Immersion Program, where students learn in both English and Spanish. Charles Hackley Middle School has also yet to be graded because it was built in 2023 with its first school year starting in 2024. Muskegon High School gets a C grade and is notable for its football program, which won the Division II state championship in 2023.A few miles to downtown and Lake Michigan beaches
Public buses are available on all the main roads through Muskegon Area Transit. It's about a 2.5-mile drive north to downtown Muskegon and 5 miles to Pere Marquette Park – a Lake Michigan beach. U.S. Business 31 runs through Campbell Field, leading 6 miles south to Muskegon County Airport, which offers Southern Airways Express flights to Chicago O'Hare International Airport.A primary shopping destination in Muskegon
On the south side of Campbell Field, the junction of Sherman Boulevard and Henry Street serve as the main commercial corridor for all of Muskegon. There's Aldi and Gordon Food Service Store for typical grocery needs, along with Supermercado San Jose, which offers Mexican specialty foods. Meanwhile, Walmart and Meijer are about 1 mile south. The area also has several local restaurants, such as G&L Chili Dogs, where the specialty is in the name. Hank's Tavern is another local favorite, offering a fusion of American and Mexican food with indoor and outdoor seating. Laketon Avenue on the neighborhood's north side has a few restaurants, including Lakeside Café, which serves homestyle breakfast all day. El Tapatio is not only a local favorite but a Michigan staple. In 2018, it was named the best Mexican restaurant in Michigan by MLive, a statewide news organization. The family-owned restaurant has been serving authentic Mexican dishes with homemade tortillas since 2004.
