Homes along the Intracoastal Waterway and River Oaks Golf Course
Pine Island's housing is mainly in planned communities and revolves around pools, sports courts and other amenities. Some homes are set along the Intracoastal Waterway with easy access to docks, boat ramps and boat storage. With amenities including a pool and a fitness room, Village Oaks is one of the newest communities with properties still under construction. Homes here are traditional in style but equipped with Smart Home Technology, automating everything from turning on lights to locking doors, and typically range from the mid $300,000s to $400,000s. The established master-planned community of Berkshire Forest is just west of this development, with townhouses and single-family homes built around a 32-acre lake. Residents are treated to various athletic facilities, including pickleball courts, walking trails, a dog park and two swimming pools--including one with a lazy river. Prices begin in the high $100,000s for a condo and can go up to $700,000 for a lakeside property. Waterway Village offers modestly priced condos ranging from the high $100,000s to $200,000s. Some are on the Intracoastal Waterway or back up to the River Oaks Golf Course. Homes in upscale areas like Carolina Waterway Plantation can run into the millions for ornate custom-builds on the Intracoastal Waterway. Pine Island does have a moderate flood risk, so homebuyers might want to investigate additional insurance. The doggie menu at The Sneaky Beagle
Player’s Grille Restaurant at Pine Island’s World Tour Golf Links course is open to the public, serving breakfast and lunch daily, as well as craft cocktails and draft beers at its bar. The Sneaky Beagle and Tavern in the Forest are next door in the Carolina Forest community. At the Sneaky Beagle, locals dine with their pups on the patio and even treat them to specialties off the dog menu. Tavern in the Forest has been a local go-to for pub grub and casual Americana fare for decades, from pizza to hamburgers. Both are less than a mile from Publix Supermarket. Boathouse is a popular spot to dock and dine along the Intracoastal Waterway, just west of Pine Island. For a bit of retail therapy, Tanger Outlets is just 3 miles north along Myrtle Beach Highway 501, with big box chains including American Eagle and Aeropostale. Many tourist shops and restaurants are found along the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk.Live music between Boathouse and downtown Myrtle Beach
The waterside Boathouse has been hosting live country music artists every Friday for 12 years, and they also run a free summer concert series from March to Labor Day. The series brings genres from rock to reggae, country and hip-hop to the restaurant's pier and concert-goers find their place on the lawn. There's also plenty to do in downtown Myrtle Beach, including the annual summer Carolina Country Music Festival. "That brings half the country here. It sells out within seconds every year. You name the country star, and they have probably played it," says Realtor Alicia Holmquist of Welcome Home Realty who lives in Myrtle Beach and specializes in North Carolina and South Carolina markets. "And, of course, you're also close to Broadway at the Beach," Bralley says. Broadway at the Beach at Celebrity Circle, 5 miles away via Route 501, is a massive entertainment complex with an aquarium, water park and amusement rides.Golf courses galore and hiking at Horry County Bike & Run Park
Pine Island is a big spot for golfers, with several private courses including the 18-hole World Tour Golf Links and River Oaks Golf Club. But there's also hiking: at the easternmost tip of Pine Island is a 7-mile trail nicknamed The Hulk, at Horry County Bike & Run Park, that traverses up and down wooded hills with plenty of twists and turns. And of course, the beach is always close by. "What's cool about the location is that if you go down Route 31, you can go to the north end of Myrtle Beach, where Golden Mile is, and if you go down 501, you'll get to the downtown Myrtle Beach area," Bralley says. Golden Mile is considered one of the most low-key beaches in Myrtle Beach and spans from 35th to 52nd Avenue.Starting out at River Oaks Elementary School
The Horry County School District serves students in Pine Island. River Oaks Elementary School, Forestbrook Middle School and Carolina Forest High School all earn an A-minus from Niche. The high school has a dual credit program that helps students on a college track get ahead of the game. They also have plenty of clubs to enrich student life, including one for sign language.Traveling Route 501
Pine Island has no public transportation, so residents rely on cars. "You are off the beaten path, but you have access to Route 501 and International Drive, so it's a very convenient location," Bralley says. Route 501 forms the neighborhood's western boundary, while South Carolina Highway 31 forms its northern border and feeds into International Drive. Pine Island's houses of worship include Saint Mary Missionary Baptist Church and Grand Strand Islamic Center, both in its western section. Myrtle Beach International Airport is 6 miles from Pine Island via Route 501 for faraway adventures. Grand Strand Medical Center is just over 10 miles southeast along Highway 31.
