"There are many service members living in Myrtle Grove," Realtor Shawn Keenan with Keller Williams Realty Gulf Coast says. "They get transferred every couple of years, so there's instant camaraderie and friendship within the community." While "the Navy base draws people," Keenan explains the neighborhood is "close to everything." The community's 17,000 residents are within walking distance of neighborhood playgrounds and corner markets – plus, locals know to avoid the summer tourists by visiting nearby Big Lagoon State Park and Johnson Beach.

Most of Myrtle Grove's homes date back to the 1960s and 1970s, but newer homes are also being built on the community's quiet streets. Lawns are kept simple and well-maintained, with tree-lined backyards big enough to add a pool and still have room for a dog to run. "Myrtle Grove is way less price per square foot compared to the rest of Pensacola, but it's not a funky area – it's still pretty cool,” Keenan says. The median sale price here is $255,000, less than the national median price.

Escambia County Public Schools

The C-plus school has since added several other career-focused programs, including the popular Flight Engineering Academies.

Close to beaches on Fort Pickens
Myrtle Grove offers access to west Pensacola’s popular green spaces. The community is close to Perdido Bay, which has sandy beaches and trails, like the Bayou Marcus Birding Trail, that wind through the area's green belt. There are a few city parks within a 10-mile radius, and nearby Osceola Municipal Golf Course is popular with golfers. Military families can go to Corry Station to bring kids to the playground or pool. The base also has athletic fields, a running track and a bowling alley.
Pensacola attracts about 2.5 million visitors every year, many of them on their way to Pensacola Beach. While locals do mingle with the tourists, they also know to avoid the crowds further west around Fort Pickens. One of the most convenient Gulf beaches for Myrtle Grove residents is Johnson Beach, west of NAS Pensacola. Just across the Florida-Alabama border are vibrant beach towns like Gulf Shores, Ala., about 30 miles from Myrtle Grove.

Naval Hospital Pensacola and its adjacent VA Hospital are located in Corry Station, but the closest medical center for non-military-affiliated residents is HCA Florida West Hospital. Pensacola International Airport is just about 10 miles from Myrtle Grove.
