Linda Vista
Ranch-style homes on quarter-acre lots
Linda Vista’s wide streets are lined with gingko, maple and redwood trees, providing shade for dog walkers and kids playing basketball. Most homes are ranch-style or split-level from the 1960s and ‘70s; houses range from 1,000 to 2,700 square feet, and lot sizes range from about a quarter-acre to just over 1 acre. Updated homes on 1/4-acre or more can cost between $1.2 million and $1.8 million, and often have backyard pools to beat the summer heat, accessory dwelling units (ADUs) or even full second homes. Houses with older finishes and smaller lots can cost between $600,000 and $1.1 million, depending on their square footage.Within walking distance of Northwood Elementary
Local kids can start school at Northwood Elementary, which earns an A-minus from Niche, and then attend the B-rated Redwood Middle; both schools are within walking distance of most local homes. At the B-plus-rated Vintage High, students can join over 40 clubs, including the Mountain Biking Club and Future Farmers of America; the school also has a working farm where kids can get hands-on agricultural experience. Nearby private schools include the unrated St. John’s Lutheran School for kids in pre-kindergarten through Grade 8, and the A-plus-rated Justin-Siena High.Walking trails in Alston Park
The 157-acre Alston Park is just west of the neighborhood, within walking distance for most residents. “It’s a very nice environment, with gentle hills where you can see the rooftops and vineyards,” says Heli Sairanen, a broker associate with Coldwell Banker Brokers of the Valley who’s sold homes in Napa for 48 years. “You really get the feeling of nature.” The park’s 3 miles of trails take hikers past vineyards and meadows, and in the morning, lucky parkgoers can see Napa’s hot air balloon tours land nearby. There's also a 30-acre off-leash dog park here, one of only a handful in the city. Right in the neighborhood, the 2-acre Dry Creek Park has a rock-themed playground and some open green space, and along the 47-mile Napa Valley Vine Trail, cyclists can bike north to Calistoga or south to Downtown Napa.Lemon ravioli at Bistro Don Giovanni
Some of the area’s most popular restaurants are along Highway 29. Bistro Don Giovanni has served traditional Italian dishes for over 30 years. “Don Giovanni is a staple in the Napa Valley,” Cline says. “It has the best lemon ravioli in the entire world.” Il Posto Trattoria is another Italian favorite known for handmade pasta, and Fumé Bistro & Bar serves upscale American fare in a cozy atmosphere. Bel Aire Plaza and other shopping centers are just east of Highway 29, where Target, Whole Foods Market and Trader Joe’s make running errands easy. The restaurants and boutiques of Downtown Napa are a 3-mile drive or bike ride away.East of Highway 29
Highway 29 borders the neighborhood’s east, leading 6 miles north to Yountville and 3 miles south to Downtown Napa; Interstate 80 is around 17 miles south. The Vine bus stops along Redwood Road and Solano Avenue, and the Napa Valley Vine Trail is a bike-friendly way to get downtown. While there are some bike-friendly roads and sidewalks, most residents rely on their cars to get around. Providence Queen of the Valley Medical Center is about a mile east. Napa County Airport, a public airport with no commercial flights, is 11 miles south; San Francisco International Airport is 65 miles away, and San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport, a smaller airport with mostly domestic flights, is a 58-mile trip.Seasonal dinners at Ashes & Diamonds Winery
Local wineries, like the nearby Ashes & Diamonds, offer special wine tastings and seasonal dinners. “We all take advantage of the Napa lifestyle, which is food, wine and craft cocktails,” Cline says. Bigger food and wine events can be found in Downtown Napa, including the Napa Truffle Festival each January, a four-day event where festivalgoers can taste and learn about truffles.Wildfire warnings with Nixle alerts
Homes near Alston Park have a higher risk of wildfire than other areas of the neighborhood, though residents throughout the neighborhood are more likely to experience smoke from nearby fires than any direct effects. The last major fire in the area was the Glass Fire in 2020, which burned areas to the north. Residents can sign up for Nixle alerts to receive wildfire warnings.
