Five-star resort lifestyle in the Carneros wine region

With hundreds of acres of vineyards and open space with grazing cattle, Stanly Ranch sticks close to its agricultural roots, but in its center are new resort-style homes by the Auberge Resorts Collection. “Auberge as a brand began in Napa Valley as the very first five-star boutique hotel in the Valley,” says Josh Dempsey, who’s sold homes in the area since 2007 and is the Regional Director of Vanguard Properties in Napa. “It grew from there to be a truly international brand, and it's perceived by the luxury market as one of the premier five-star brands in the world.” Before Auberge built the Stanly Ranch resort, the area was a renowned vineyard that was one of the first to put the Carneros wine region on the map in the 1880s. Today, 600 acres of the resort’s 700-acre property are designated agricultural land and open space, ensuring that the original vineyards and pastoral appeal of the area remain intact. Auberge’s Stanly Ranch resort includes two residential areas—the single-family Vineyard homes and the Villas condos—as well as a hotel, guest cottages, spa and fine dining restaurant. The area is surrounded by bike trails, and the Napa River to the east provides opportunities for boating and fishing. Nearby houses of worship include Hillside Christian Church and The Father’s House. Downtown Napa is 6 miles north, and San Francisco is 47 miles south. “It’s as close to San Francisco as you can be and still be in Napa County,” Dempsey says. The area’s seclusion has resulted in an overall CAP Index Crime Score of 3 out of 10, lower than the national average of 4.

Modern farmhouses and condos with resort access

When the residences at Stanly Ranch are complete at the end of 2024, two types of homes will be available. The Villas are two-bedroom 21st-century modern condos in four-unit complexes, with two units downstairs and two upstairs. While units are the same size, amenities vary; first-floor units have patios and outdoor baths, and second-floor units have balconies with vineyard views and vaulted ceilings that let in more light. Prices range from around $3.6 million to $4.3 million and vary depending on layout and location. Residents will have to pay both a homeowners association fee and a club fee that totals $4,465 each month to have full access to the resort’s amenities. The Vineyard homes are single-family houses in a modern farmhouse style. These can have between three and six bedrooms and are characterized by vaulted wooden ceilings and outdoor living spaces. These are still under construction, and Dempsey says that prices will begin in the $5 millions. Residents here can rent out their homes through the resort’s hotel, without the 30-day minimum stay that is typically required in Napa County. “There’s a prohibition across the city and county against short-term rentals, and Stanly Ranch is one of the rare exceptions,” Dempsey says.

Spa day at Halehouse

Resort amenities, including the pool and fitness studio, are available to all residents who pay club fees. Those in need of a spa day can book a massage at Halehouse or salt therapy at Springhouse, part of the resort’s wellness village. Just east of the neighborhood, the San Francisco Bay Trail, part of the Bay Area Regional Trail Network, is a popular place to bike or walk in the shade of fragrant eucalyptus trees. Boaters can explore the Napa River to the east and store their boats at the Napa Valley Marina to the south. Several golf courses are within 6 miles, including Chardonnay Golf Club, Eagle Vines Golf Club and Napa Golf Course.

Elevated dining at Bear

Residents can start their day at Gavel, a coffee shop with a selection of pastries, or settle in for a longer meal at Bear, the resort’s main restaurant with upscale meals and a large patio. The wineries of Carneros are just outside of the resort. Etude Wines, known for pinot noir, is nearby, and the Donum Estate is a little further west. “Donum Estate is my favorite winery in the neighborhood,” Dempsey says. “The wines there are some of the very best coming out of the Carneros region, and the property itself is very unique. The owner has curated a large-scale sculpture collection that you can tour if you do a tasting. The art is all outside and large scale — the place is impressive.” For a wardrobe refresh, residents can schedule an appointment with a personal stylist at the Fifth Avenue Club in the resort. Nearby grocery options include Raley’s and Target.

Concert choir at Napa High

Local kids can start school at Browns Valley Elementary, which earns an A-minus from Niche and serves kids in transitional kindergarten through Grade 8. At the B-plus-rated Napa High, students can join the 350-member choir, which has six vocal ensembles, including the concert choir and the musical theater choir. Private options include the A-rated Napa Christian for kindergarten through Grade 12 and the A-plus-rated Justin-Siena High for Grades 9 through 12.

Near Highway 29

“In addition to being 10 minutes from Downtown Napa and an hour from San Francisco, Yountville and Sonoma are 20 minutes away,” Dempsey says. Highway 29 is the main road here, leading 6 miles north to Napa and about 12 miles north to Yountville. Interstate 80 is 12 miles south, leading 47 miles south to San Francisco. While there’s no public transportation, dedicated bike lanes connect the neighborhood with Napa and the rest of the Napa Valley. Residents here can walk to the resort’s amenities, but the neighborhood's seclusion makes residents rely on their cars or bikes to get around. Providence Queen of the Valley Medical Center is 7 miles north. Napa County Airport, a public airport with no commercial flights, is 6 miles southeast; San Francisco International Airport is 62 miles south, and San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport, a smaller airport with mostly domestic flights, is a 50-mile trip.

The Oysters and Chardonnay Harvest Fête

The resort hosts regular events for both residents and guests. The Oysters and Chardonnay Harvest Fête celebrates the fall harvest in Napa Valley, and on New Year’s Eve, there’s a special prix fixe menu with wine pairings at Bear. Residents can also head to Downtown Napa for events like the Napa Truffle Festival, where festivalgoers can learn about truffles and enjoy truffle-inspired dishes.

Low flood and fire risk

While some of the surrounding vineyards are susceptible to flooding from the Napa River, the homes here are located outside of the flood zone. The wildfire risk is low due to the topography and proximity to the Bay, but smoke from nearby fires may affect air quality.
