Farmington’s Colonial and Tudor-inspired homes
Farmington’s residential streets are bordered by homes with traditional architecture resting on quarter-acre lots. Colonial and Tudor-inspired builds neighbor bilevels and custom homes that offer anywhere from 2,500 to 3,000 square feet. Their manicured lawns are peppered with mature trees and backyard patios. Attached two-car garages come standard, with 12 feet of space between each house where neighbors don’t typically build fences. Uniform mailboxes are posted at the end of each driveway, while old-fashioned lampposts switch on at twilight. With a CAP Index Crime score of 1, compared to the national average of 4, Farmington residents are frequently spotted walking their dogs along neatly paved, well-lit sidewalks. Prices typically range between $520,000 and $805,000, above average compared to the surrounding Chicago metropolitan area.A bike ride away from DuPage River Park
A community playground marks the entrance of Farmington Park, surrounded by open fields and newly planted trees. The green space is largely tucked away from local traffic and features a gently graded hill for wintertime sledding. Residents can bike south to DuPage River Park, which covers 264 acres of well-tended trails, red mulberry trees and an entryway to the DuPage River Trail. “When I promote the area, I’m promoting that park,” Jackson says. “You can rent kayaks and canoes, go fishing and ride your bike—which is nice since many of the trails downtown prohibit cycling. It’s just appealing to live so close to all that nature.” The trail itself stretches 2 miles east to Whalon Lake Preserve, home to prairie, wetlands and a 12-acre dog park. Largemouth bass and walleye fill the lake, where visitors flock to cast a line or take in the view from Whalon’s lakefront benches.A-rated public schools in District 203
Farmington is zoned for the Naperville Community Unit School District 203, which receives an overall A-plus grade from Niche. The district is one of just 16 in the U.S. recognized as “Lighthouse Systems,” modeling positive change in public education. Students begin at River Woods Elementary. With an A-plus, the school was granted “Exemplary” status by the Illinois State Board of Education in 2023. The A-rated Madison Junior High offers a STEM-centered, project-based gateway program called Project Lead the Way, where students design, model and test their ideas for producing, reducing and conserving energy. Naperville Central High earns an A-plus, offering more than 70 courses worth of Career and Technical Education to help students prepare for college and the workforce.Family-friendly festivities in Downtown Naperville
Downtown Naperville hosts city-wide events throughout the year. Held on 5th Avenue, the Naperville Farmer’s Market takes place each Saturday from June through October. Guests browse locally grown produce and handcrafted items before heading to the Naper Nights Summer Concert Series. This city-wide summertime tradition features themed tribute concerts hosted by the Naper Settlement outdoor history museum. By the time autumn settles in, Naperville families say farewell to summer at The Last Fling, a weekend-long Labor Day festival featuring live music, carnival rides and a parade.Proximity to the thoroughfares that count
Though Farmington sits 5 miles from Downtown Naperville, residents benefit from proximity to nearby thoroughfares and interstates. Washington Street, for example, leads to the nearest emergency room at Endeavor Health Edward Hospital, just 4 miles north. “Southwest Naperville has to contend with Route 59, which is a major artery,” Jackson says. “But we don’t have many traffic concerns over on our side. Especially because we’re east towards Chicago, it makes for a very easy commute whether you’re going into the city for work or just spending time out there.” Interstate 55 takes residents 33 miles into Downtown Chicago, but some instead opt for the hour-long Metra ride from Naperville Station. Those heading into Aurora can take 75th Street west for 14 miles, while those traveling out-of-state typically fly out of Chicago Midway International Airport, 25 miles east on Interstate 55. Alternatively, many ride the Metra to Union Station and catch the L to the airport.Shopping & dining on Washington Street
Residents can take Naper Boulevard to Washington Street, a popular thoroughfare lined with shopping and dining options, on their way to Downtown Naperville. North on Naper Boulevard, Mariano’s supermarket sits across the parking lot from Freedom Brothers Pizzeria & Alehouse, a regional chain with a full bar, brick ovens and playful menu items, including “Grateful Bread” and “Green Day” pesto pizza. About 2 miles south, Maple Park Place and its surrounding shopping centers are home to supermarkets and big-box retailers, including Target, Jewel-Osco, Meijer and Home Depot. Closer to home, Sweet Toast Café serves fresh cake donuts on the weekends—prepared in-house. Bottoms Up Sports Bar & Grill sits nearby, a classic game-day hangout serving beer and wings while the Bears game plays overhead.
