Colonial Revivals and split-levels throughout Old Farm
Despite the name, houses in Old Farm are far from farmhouses. Siding Colonial Revivals and split-levels are common here. Trees line the streets, turning vibrant yellows and reds in the autumn and decorating lawns with leaves. Sidewalks connect the houses, so people can walk to the community’s parks and even the elementary school from their homes. Most houses list between $400,000 and $550,000 in Old Farm.Old Farm's neighborhood parks within walking distance
The community features residential parks, but people don’t have to go far for Naperville’s hiking trails. Old Farm Park is mainly open space, perfect for a game of soccer or a picnic, but there is a playground for the kids. Its location at the heart of Old Farm means some homes are back in the park for increased accessibility. On the northern side of the neighborhood, Spring-Field Park offers more open fields with a basketball court and a playground. The DuPage River flows along the eastern side of the neighborhood, featuring a sledding hill at Weigand Riverfront Park. “You also get access to the bike paths which you can take to downtown,” says broker and Naperville resident Walt Burrell with Coldwell Baker Commercial. To the west, Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve features over 1,800 acres of protected prairies and grasslands, with hiking trails and picnic areas throughout.Students can walk to school from Old Farm
Located on the southern side of Old Farm, Kingsley Elementary School serves grades kindergarten through five. Both it and Lincoln Junior High School earn A rankings from Niche. Naperville Central High School offers several sports, from football and basketball to more unique options like badminton and water polo. Niche grants the school an A-plus ranking and distinguishes it as the 25th-best school for athletes in Illinois.Local farmers markets and summer wine walks
With downtown just a few miles away, residents can head into the city center for annual and seasonal events. “Every Saturday, there’s a farmers market throughout the summer,” Burrell says. “We’ll even have to this year.” The addition of the Naperville Artisan Market on select weekends gives residents more opportunities to shop locally. Naperville also offers wine walks throughout the summer, where guests can sample wines and food from different downtown restaurants. For Labor Day weekend, the city comes together for Last Fling and says farewell to summer with a parade, carnival and live music.Take South Washington Street into downtown Naperville
While hikers and bikers can connect to places beyond the neighborhood along the River Trail, most Old Farm residents will use a car to get around. Washington Street connects to downtown Naperville, only 5 miles away. Along this route, people can find Endeavor Health Edward Hospital, about 4 miles away. Even though Old Farm is about 33 miles west of Chicago, the area is popular with city commuters. People can get to the city center from the Amtrak station in downtown Naperville or via the nearby Interstates, like I-290. For those who like to travel, Chicago Midway International Airport is the closest airport, just 29 miles along I-55.Breakfast spots and sports bars near Old Farm
