Longwood Elementary School, which maintains an A-minus rating on Niche, is located in the center of Scots Plains. “All of our students live within 1.5 miles of the school, so we don’t provide bus services,” explains Sam Meunier, the school's office assistant. “Outside of specific needs, every student walks here.” Older students head to Granger Middle School, which has an A rating, before attending Metea Valley High School. The high school has an A-plus grade on Niche and has won a GRAMMY Signature Gold School award, which is given to schools devoted to quality music education despite funding.

Exploring McDowell Forest Preserve
Breaking off Bruce Lane, one of the community’s residential streets, is a paved trail that is appreciated for convenient morning strolls. The trail stretches from Country Lakes Park just south up through neighboring communities for miles to the north. Less than 2 miles east is McDowell Grove Forest Preserve. Many locals head here to kayak, thanks to its on-site boat launch, explore local wildlife along its 7 miles of turf and limestone trails and fish in Mud Lake.
