Custom, turnkey, brick-front homes in South Pointe
Neat sidewalks follow the curb past New Traditional, gable-front homes built in the early 2000s, each with three-car garages and many with finished basements. “They’re all custom homes, and people care for them and really maintain them,” Spangler says. “People tend to put up nice holiday decorations, they’ve got mature trees and almost all of the homes are brick-front, so they have great curb appeal. The HOA also has regulations to keep things neat, so you’re not allowed to have boats on your yard or RVs on the driveway.” Front yards are split between trimmed grass and mulched landscaping with trim shrubbery and stone outcroppings. Wooden decks, paved patios and pools are common in these backyards, separated by fences or lines of trees. Homes here range in price from $625,000 to $850,000, depending on the number of recent renovations, bathrooms and bedrooms.A central namesake park, swim club and DuPage River activities
Homes at the center of the neighborhood look out over the well-trimmed soccer field at South Pointe Park. A sheltered pavilion and picnic tables sit beside a playground on the park’s west side. South Pointe Swim Club’s parking lot fills up when the zero-foot entry pool opens on Memorial Day weekend. A tennis court is next door, and the clubhouse’s curved, glass-front back wall provides pool views during birthdays and other celebrations. The facility also includes a fireplace, a commercial-grade kitchen and flat-screen TVs. Despite sharing a name, South Pointe Swim Club is not affiliated with the South Pointe Neighborhood Association, and a bond membership is needed to access the amenities.Once farmland owned by the locally well-known Clow family, Riverview Farmstead Preserve has a kayak launch and a paved segment of the DuPage River Trail, a work-in-progress that will eventually span 40 miles from Channahon into DuPage County. There’s also a historic limestone house and a timber-framed barn kept up by the DuPage River preservation system that is visible along the trail for walkers, bikers and cross-country skiers.
Students attend Plainfield School District
South Pointe is one of a handful of Naperville neighborhoods that falls within Plainfield School District No. 202, and all three home schools are within 2 miles of the community. Freedom Elementary School scores an A-minus from Niche, along with Heritage Grove Middle School. Plainfield North High School, one of four in the district, scores an A and enrolled 2,300 students in the 2023-2024 school year. In addition to Advanced Placement courses, students take dual credit classes in partnership with Joliet Junior College, University of St. Francis, Waubonsee Community College and more. Students can also commute to Wilco Area Career Center in Romeoville, where they study specialized programs like nursing assistance, culinary arts, cosmetology and mechanics.Family-friendly events and Sea Stars swim meets
On summer weekends, the South Pointe Sea Stars swim team competes at home or other community pools in the Naperville area. The South Pointe Neighborhood Association organizes other year-round events for the community. “They’ll do Trick or Treating, and around Christmas, they do a Santa meet-and-greet or some sort of games and stuff for the kids,” Spangler says. “There’s usually wine tastings once a year or a bags tournaments once a year, stuff that’s good for all ages.”Pace bus and Metra connections near South Pointe
Route 59 is the starting point for many commutes from South Pointe—whether it’s the 10-mile drive to downtown Naperville, the 2-and-a-half-mile drive to Endeavor Health Edward Emergency Center Plainfield, or getting on Interstate 55 for the 38-mile trip to downtown Chicago. Many commuters park their vehicles during the day at Route 59 Station—an 8-mile drive away from South Pointe—and hop on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) railway line to the Windy City. “It's a decent number of people who work downtown,” Spangler says. “I have quite a few friends in the neighborhood, and one goes downtown twice a week using the expedited train that gets into the city faster.” The station is a stop on the Pace suburban bus, which picks up from the neighboring community of High Meadow and heads north-to-south to other Naperville attractions like Fox Valley Mall. The neighborhood is also 30 miles from Chicago Midway International Airport and 37 from Chicago O’Hare International Airport.Route 59, Naperville’s central dining and shopping thoroughfare
It doesn’t take long for residents to see big-box stores, chain restaurants and professional offices after exiting the neighborhood onto Illinois Route 59. “They call it ‘Naperworld’ because any possible store you could want, you can find on Route 59,” Spangler says. Locally owned restaurants are side-by-side with regional and national chains on this strip leading farther into Naperville and south to Plainfield. Close to home is Freedom Brothers Pizzeria and Alehouse, which serves hand-tossed brick oven pizza from their airy Plainfield location and on the string-lit patio. The closest grocery option is Angelo Caputo’s Fresh Market, less than a mile north at the 111th Street intersection. Amazon Fresh and Jewel-Osco are further north across the street from AMC Naperville 16, and Target is farther south in Plainfield.
