Southeast Nashua
Suburban Neighborhood in Nashua, New Hampshire
Hillsborough County 03060
A series of modern and mid-century New England homes and condos
Single-family homes in residential neighborhoods sit north of the mall. Some properties flank the Nashua Country Club’s fairways, while others rest on quiet streets near the elementary school. “A lot of people work in Massachusetts, so that’s a perfect border space where people can get to work quickly but still be in New Hampshire,” says Angeline Gorham, area resident and Realtor with Verani Realty with Berkshire Hathaway Home Services. Most homes were built between 1910 and 1980, creating a mix of housing styles. There are large split-level family homes, modest Cape Cods and Colonial-inspired estates on manicured lawns. These historic and mid-century homes create a classic, New England atmosphere. Alongside these historic homes, there are also a few new builds around town. These new traditional housing styles often include columns over front porches, brand-new vinyl siding, and large garages for two or more cars. Most single-family homes in Southeast Nashua cost between $300,000 and $800,000.
Several condo communities lie within the heart of Daniel Webster Highway commercial buildings and businesses. Some, like those at Louisburg Square, have covered balconies and updated kitchens. Greenwood Condominiums has open-air balconies, shared laundry and a swimming pool. Depending on the size of the home and the community, condo units can cost between $250,000 and $500,000.

The subdivisions of Southeast Nashua are centered around Nashua Country Club, which has been serving the community for over 100 years. Members can spend an afternoon on the well-maintained 18-hole golf course or use the tennis, curling or swimming facilities. Locals can also take in the fresh air at Fields Grove Park, where people stroll alongside Salmon Brook or use the basketball court, tennis courts or playground. In the winter months, families can head to Roby Park for a trip down its popular sledding hill. SkyVenture New Hampshire is an indoor amusement complex with skydiving, rock climbing and even a high-speed wave pool for surfing. It also includes the Oasis Cafe restaurant with a simple lunch menu, snacks and alcoholic beverages.Nashua District public schools and vocational programs
Sunset Heights Elementary School teaches kindergarten through fifth grade and is rated a B-minus on Niche. Its campus is near the Nashua Country Club, tucked between residential streets. Brian S. McCarthy Middle School has replaced downtown's Elm Street Middle School. Though it does not yet have a Niche or GreatSchools score, it is set to open for the 2024 school year. The building includes a modern 20-acre campus and several amenities for middle school students. Nashua High School South is graded a B-plus and offers a variety of courses. “I went to school there for vocational programs when Nashua High was just one school. I studied in the graphics printing program and helped run their press room,” Gorham says.Just west of the country club is private Rivier University, which serves undergraduate and graduate students in many different fields of study. "It's been there for years. My daughter went to study nursing there to finish up her degree. It's got one of the bigger nursing programs and it has a beautiful campus,” Gorham says.
Navigating Southeast Nashua and commutes south to Boston
Nashua Transit System buses run throughout the neighborhood, taking passengers either north to downtown or into the surrounding suburbs. The Everett Turnpike is Nashua’s major highway, which takes drivers 23 miles north to Manchester and the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport or 43 miles south to Boston. “You’ll definitely find more traffic during commuting hours, but usually, the residents know the shortcuts and what time to leave or what route to take,” Gorham says. For a night out on Main Street, downtown Nashua is about 2 miles north.Pheasant Lane Mall and its surrounding shops and restaurants
Pheasant Lane Mall sits right on the border of New Hampshire and Massachusetts. “A lot of people like the mall because they cross over the border and there are no sales taxes here,” Gorham says. This massive commercial complex west of the Merrimack River has over 130 shops and surrounding restaurants.Familiar chain stores like Costco, Walmart and Lowe’s are located nearby, and an assortment of local cafes and eateries round out Southeast Nashua’s commercial district. Pressed Cafe is vegan and vegetarian friendly, with grain bowls, soups and sandwiches. An assortment of East Asian restaurants includes Sakura Asian Bistro and Takumi Sushi. Breakfast is always served fresh at spots like Red Arrow Diner and The Friendly Toast.
Right near Rivier University is a longtime staple of Hayward's Ice Cream. Situated next to a large outdoor picnic area on a little hill, Hayward's is a classic takeaway-only spot with ice cream, French fries and onion rings. “The food at Hayward's is really good, and the ice cream is always great. Usually, on a nice day, you’ll see lines of people there,” Gorham says. Folks can get their ice cream and sit down at once of many outdoor picnic tables on its shaded lawn. Farmer stands selling flowers or produce from the Hollis area sometimes park in Hayward's parking lot, so diners can also shop or buy a bouquet.
