Farmland gives way to new subdivisions in North Nashville
It’s not uncommon to spot grazing cows and horses behind wooden fences in Brick Church Bellshire, a community that’s managed to preserve its rural flair 8 miles north of Downtown Nashville. Maples Farm Fresh Eggs is known for its free-range chickens and bright orange yolks, and locals can stop by the tiny brick shack for cartons on the way home from work. Besides Mt. Zion Baptist Church, which stands tall to the north, Brick Church Bellshire is still largely undeveloped – according to Michael Elizabeth McQuillen with Ryan Homes, that will all change in coming years. “Restaurants are definitely coming with new developments…it’s definitely gonna look a lot different here,” she says. Brand-new subdivisions in the southern portion of the neighborhood advertise vinyl-sided homes surrounded by freshly planted trees, and Interstate 24 divides the neighborhood in half vertically, connecting country dwellers to the heart of Music City in less than half an hour.
Brick Church Bellshire is also home to smaller one story homes in large neighborhoods.
Vinyl-sided homes and mid-century ranch-styles
In subdivisions like Thornton Grove, three- and four-bedroom properties built after 2020 start at around $375,000 and reach up to $450,000. Compared to the rest of the neighborhood, they sit on relatively compact lots — around 5,000 square feet — and feature multi-car garages ideal for commuters. Two-story townhouses hover between $265,000 and $315,000 and come equipped with stainless steel appliances, open floor plans and smart thermostats. Older ranch-styles, farmhouses and cottages can be found along winding roads like Brick Church Pike, and prices hover around $400,000 for three bedrooms and half an acre. Ranch homes resting on upwards of 10 acres, enough space for horses, can easily surpass $1 million. Some properties feature storm shelters, a protective measure when tornado season hits in the spring.
The Trails at Fontanel in the Brick Church Bellshire area has miles of hiking trails.
The Trails at Fontanel, hiking in Beaman Park and a playground beside Cedar Hill Lake
Hiking opportunities surround Brick Church Bellshire. There’re the Trails at Fontanel, a 2-plus mile system popular with dog walkers and mountain bikers. Once the home of country music star Barbara Mandrell, Fontanel Mansion is now a popular wedding venue. Beaman Park is about 20 minutes away, a 1700-acre expanse home to the Creekside Trailhead, a rustic nature center and this historic Proctor Barn, which dates back to the early 20th century. To the east, spot turtles sunning themselves beside Cedar Hill Lake, which is surrounded by paved trails, picnic shelters, a large playground and disc golf course.
Jacks BBQ is a local spot for a tasty meal in Brick Church Bellshire.
Bar-B-Que staples and new development along Trinity Lane
Big-box retailers can be found just outside the neighborhood’s borders, and according to McQuillen, Trinity Lane will see more shopping and dining opportunities in coming years – Dutch Bros Coffee is one of the thoroughfare’s recent additions. There’s a Walmart Supercenter next to a Lowe's in Skyline Commons and a Tony’s Foodland up Clarksville Pike. McQuillen also recommends Jack’s Bar-B-Que, a Nashville chain. “It’s been around for a while – that’s where I grab lunch when I’m working in the area. Brisket is my go-to order,” she says. Other local favorites include Bang Bang Hibachi Grill & Sushi Nashville, a bright red food truck with window service off Dickerson Pike. El Ray Azteca can be found between Old Hickory Boulevard gas stations, and diners enjoy glasses of horchata at wooden booths. There are dozens more retail options in the Rivergate Mall, about 10 miles away from the neighborhood in Goodlettsville.

Ziplining at Adventureworks
Next to the Trails at Fontanel and the Fontanel Mansion, find Adventureworks Zipline Forest. Tickets are around $70 for adults and $50 for kids under 17, and lines run above tree canopies, offering sweeping views of North Nashville. “When you first come to Adventureworks, you can see the hills and you can see the [Fontanel] mansion,” says Lillian Edwards, who’s worked as a zipline guide for the past year. “It’s very tall trees, hills. You’ll see wildlife like deer, squirrels and chipmunks — sometimes even snakes. The views are really pretty, especially when it rains and the mist comes.” South of Route 155 is the Parkwood Community Center, which hosts adult fitness classes and after-school programming.

Commutes along Interstate 24 into downtown Nashville
The majority of people who commute from Brick Church Bellshire are based out of Nashville, says McQuillen. “You also have a small pocket that is military commuting into Clarksville,” she says, adding that traffic has increased in recent years as the metropolitan area continues to grow. Downtown is about 8 miles south of the neighborhood along Interstate 24, but it can take over half an hour — and sometimes up to 45 minutes — to get to and from the city during rush hour. Nashville International Airport is approximately 15 miles from the neighborhood along Tennessee Route 155, and the nearest hospital is TriStar Skyline Medical Center, a 353-bed facility off of Dickerson Pike.
