Parkwood Estates
Modest homes on tree-lined streets
Parkwood Estates is home to mostly modest 1960s single-family ranch-style and split-level homes. Most homes sit on fair-sized lots and have private driveways. A handful of homes here have attached garages. There are no sidewalks in the community, but most of the streets are tree-lined, which provides a shady, residential feel. Prospective buyers can expect to pay between $279,000 for a 1,400 square-foot ranch to about $475,000 for an 1,800 square-foot split-level home.Parkwood's public schools
Neighborhood schools are served by Metro Nashville Public Schools. Children may begin their learning at Chadwell Elementary School, which has a C-minus rating from Niche and a 15-1 student-teacher ratio. Jere Baxter Middle School also has a C-minus rating and a 17-1 student-teacher ratio. Maplewood Comprehensive High School is rated C-minus and has a 16-1 student-teacher ratio. In September 2023, the school announced a collaborative program with Gear Up Nashville and Music City Construction Careers to offer a nationally certified 120-hour Apprentice Readiness Program to students who opt to enter a construction field after high school. The park at the heart of the community
Parkwood Park is at the heart of the community. Kids fly down the giant yellow slide at the playground and balls bounce on the basketball court. The adjoining community center has many classes and provides a place to relax with friends or break a sweat during a workout session. After school, students can also participate in the center’s youth programs. The 5-acre park is undergoing exciting renovations to restore its baseball fields and develop an additional 53 acres of parkland. Many shopping and dining choices
The community is close to many shopping and dining options. There is a Little Barn Market in the area where one can pick up essentials such as milk or bread. Walmart Supercenter is less than a mile from Parkwood Estates, and several other grocery chains are nearby. Skyline Commons is a nearby shopping mall that includes a Lowe’s and the women’s apparel store, Rainbow Shops. When it comes to dining, there are plenty of fast-food chains just a few miles east, including Waffle House, Arby’s and Taco Bell. Jay’s Family Restaurant serves southern-style cooking for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And, residents of Parkwood Estates are just a few minutes’ drive from award-winning restaurants like Bourbon Steak in downtown Nashville.Block parties and summer fun
The sense of community is an integral part of what makes Parkwood Estates so popular with homeowners. The Parkwood Neighborhood Association hosts annual events to unite neighbors, and regular community clean-ups keep the neighborhood tidy. Parkwood Estates comes to life in the summer. During the summer, the smell of freshly grilled hot dogs and burgers wafts through the air at the community’s annual block party. “We really do have a great time,” says neighborhood association member Rose Blanchard.Getting around Parkwood Estates
