About New Albany, OH

The Silicon Valley of the Midwest

Founded in the mid-1800s, the village of New Albany would maintain fewer than 500 residents until the 1990s, when the population exploded due to industrial expansion. Today, residents hover around 11,000 as a thriving tech market puts down roots in the Central Ohio soil. But many say there's more to New Albany than being the Silicon Valley of the Midwest. "Sure, the tech industry brings in a lot of people," says Marci Press, owner of Home Central Realty. "But the housing is beautiful, the schools are outstanding and the community is robust. New Albany is a gem all on its own."

Upscale 21-century housing

The median market price for real estate in New Albany is in the low $600,000s, higher than the national median in the low $400,000s. "A lot of these houses aren't going to interest first-time homebuyers," says Press. "The price makes them more of a choice for people moving up." Taxes are also higher, she says, though that might be more a feature than a bug. "People are happy to pay them," Press says. "Because with the schools, the amenities—they're getting what they pay for." Communities like Fodor are known for upscale luxury housing, while Upper Clarenton features midcentury-style homes from the 1960s and '70s. The tech industry is the center of New Albany's job market, including data centers from Google, Amazon and Meta. Intel is constructing a $20 billion chip facility that will employ around 3,000 people when it's finished at the end of 2026. Retail and distribution is also a major industry, as New Albany is home to Abercrombie and Fitch’s head offices and distribution center. Bath & Body Works also has its headquarters and distribution centers just south. Mount Carmel New Albany is a surgery-centered specialty hospital that employs over 300 residents, and offers 24-hour emergency care.
