“New Rochelle is very, very convenient, there’s a big selection of restaurants with diverse cuisines to choose from,” says Chen. “There’s North Avenue and then shopping, major supermarkets and chain stores downtown.” North Avenue has sidewalks, and most residents can walk to nearby restaurants. Less than a mile away, the Quaker Ridge Shopping Center has a collection of retailers and eateries, such as Sakana Japanese Cuisine for sushi and other seafood dishes. There’s also an ACME market for groceries. Across the street, The Wooden Spoon serves American comfort food in a rustic diner with metal street signs decorating the walls. Next door, Deanna’s Pizzeria & Restaurant serves pasta, calzones and other classic Italian comfort food. Costco Wholesale and The Home Depot are 6 miles away. For more shopping and dining, White Plains Road is 2 miles away, with strip malls housing retailers and chain restaurants. It also has The Fresh Market and Trader Joe’s for groceries.
Within the neighborhood, most roads connect directly to North Avenue, a bustling thoroughfare lined with retail plazas and restaurants, such as Traditional Bagel Cafe.

Commuters use the Hutchinson River Parkway and the Cross County Parkway
“A significant number of residents commute to New York City,” says Chen. “And some work in New Rochelle and Westchester in general.” Commuters can hop on the Hutchinson River Parkway or the Cross County Parkway to get anywhere in Westchester County, such as Yonkers, 7 miles away, and White Plains, 11 miles away. Using the Hutchinson River Parkway and Cross County Parkway, commuters reach New York City in 40 to 60 minutes, depending on traffic. The Bee-Line bus system serves New Rochelle and the Westchester County area. Bus stops are found along North Avenue and are synced with the New Haven Line, so residents may catch a bus to the New Rochelle train station, 3 miles away. From there, riders can reach New York City in just over 30 minutes. LaGuardia Airport is 15 miles south along the Hutchinson River Parkway, and the Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital is 2 miles away. The New Rochelle United Methodist Church is within the neighborhood, but other houses of worship, such as Young Israel of New Rochelle, are along North Avenue.
The Bee-Line System provides bus service to the Wykagyl Crossways community.
A short drive to the New Rochelle Metro North station, just 3 miles away, provides a direct train ride into Grand Central Terminal in a little over 30 minutes.
