A quintessential mid-western Indiana community, New Whiteland offers a blend of mid-20-century rural suburbia mixed with 21st-century exurban expansion. Incorporated in the 1950s, New Whiteland has grown from predominantly a farming community with small residential pockets, into a thriving modern suburb of Indianapolis. New subdivisions have arrived on the scene at a pace reflecting the growth of Greater Indianapolis, which is just 30 miles north. Emerging commercial centers, creative new businesses and highly ranked public schools give homebuyers more than one reason to seek a home outside Indianapolis. Audrey Satterblom, Realtor with A.S.A.P. Real Estate, and a real estate agent for nearly 25 years explains the appeal of New Whiteland, “New Whiteland offers homebuyers a quiet, rural feeling but thanks to recent growth, it still has enough conveniences to make daily living easy.”

As homeseekers approach New Whiteland, highways take them past farmland, subdivisions, and commercial areas. Homes in New Whiteland have neat yards with flowering trees and sidewalks that make it easy to get a walk in at the end of a day. New two-story homes can be found from $350,000 to $440,000. Single-family villas sell for $285,000 to $300,000. Ranch-style homes built in the 1960s list for around $300,000. Tracy Commons is a maintenance-free subdivision of homes, townhouses and condominiums that sell from $185,000 to over $300,000. Thanks to new home construction, and its semi-rural/semi-suburban location in Johnson County, New Whiteland has been named the No. 2 best suburb in Indianapolis to buy a house, by Niche.

School-age kids can attend Clark-Pleasant Community Schools which has an overall grade of B-plus from Niche. Break-O-Day Elementary offers kindergarten through fifth grade and has a B-grade from Niche. Clark Pleasant Middle has a student-teacher ratio of 17 to 1 and an overall Niche grade of A-minus. Whiteland Community High is ranked the No. 2 best public high school in Johnson County, has a student-teacher ratio of 18 to 1 and offers 17 dual credit classes. Kids of all ages will enjoy Whiteland Raceway Park, a popular go-kart race track. East Park features a large playground and basketball courts. Country Gate Park has a playground facing a pretty fishing pond, as well as a paved walking trail. For indoor fun, head south on Route 31 to Sweat Shop for group classes and personal training. Weekends are a great time to head to nearby golf courses and state parks including Yellowwood State Forest and Morgan-Monroe State Forest. New Whiteland High School Friday night football games are popular with more than just students and their parents.

Diners enjoy pizza, pasta, sandwiches and old-fashioned Coca-Cola decor at Kacey’s Pizza Spot. When you have time to enjoy a leisurely breakfast that someone else makes, visit Whit’s Inn, a family-owned restaurant with a welcoming vibe. Locals enjoy lunch, happy hour and dinner at Friend’s Diner. It’s easy to pick up groceries when Kroger is close by. When you’re ready to start decorating your new home, Greenwood Park Mall has 150 stores and restaurants, including Macy’s, Yankee Candle and JCPenney. Enjoy discovering gently used furniture and furnishings at Emporium 31 flea market, just north of New Whiteland.

Even though New Whiteland can feel rural at times, the location is conveniently close to downtown Indianapolis. Commuters can hop on Highway 31, then Interstate 69 heading south, which connects to I-465, the beltway around Indianapolis. Major employers include Eli Lilly, Salesforce, Wellpoint and Indiana University Health. Weekend travelers will find Cincinnati, Louisville and Chicago all within a two-hour drive, which makes getting away for a few days a breeze.
