Countryside living in Spring Ridge
In the countryside outside of High Springs and about 30 miles from Gainesville, Spring Ridge offers a rural lifestyle with excellent opportunities for outdoor recreation. Spring Ridge residents enjoy much more acreage than they’d get in the city and a location that’s just a couple of miles from the Santa Fe River and popular natural sites like Ruth B. Kirby Gilchrist Blue Springs State Park. “Our outdoor recreation just feels like classic old Florida, and so much of our community loves an active outdoor lifestyle,” says Autumn Doughton, a Florida native who works in administration as a relocation specialist for Bosshardt Realty Services. “We really support the protection of nature and keep voting to fund parks and recreation. Outlying areas like this are a testament to how beautiful Gainesville can be.”
Spring Ridge’s ranch-style and acreage homes
In Spring Ridge, acreage is one of the biggest draws. Most homes were built between 1995 and 2005 and sit on at least 2 to 3 acres – while some have 10 or more. “When we look at where the building has happened in the last 20 years, almost all of it is to the west, where there’s untouched countryside,” says Craig Wilburn, a Realtor of 22 years working with Keller Williams Gainesville. Oaks draped with Spanish moss shade Spring Ridge’s narrow, winding roads, and RVs and small boats park in large driveways and yards. The architecture here is most commonly ranch styles and cottages, along with a few contemporary custom builds. Depending on acreage, homes typically sell between $300,000 and $500,000, with the occasional outlier. The neighborhood has a low CAP Index Crime Score of 1 out of 10, with the national average being 4.
The crystal waters of Gilchrist Blue Springs
The Santa Fe River flows just around the community. Along its banks are several natural springs where the water stays at a consistent 72 degrees year-round. Ruth B. Kirby Gilchrist Blue Springs State Park, a couple of miles from Spring Ridge, is one of the largest locations for enjoying the springs. Locals and tourists come to swim, snorkel and kayak, as well as hike and fish at locations around the park. “The springs are gorgeous, with the bluest of blue waters. They’re otherworldly. I’ve lived in Florida my entire life and didn’t know they even existed until I moved to Gainesville," Doughton says. "You can rent kayaks with glass bottoms to see the manatees that migrate in for the winter.”
Heading to High Springs for a grocery run
Spring Ridge is about 8 miles west of High Springs, a small city just north of Gainesville. Since Spring Ridge is almost entirely residential, it’s the closest place where locals can do their weekend errand runs. High Springs has a small commercial and business area off Santa Fe Boulevard with shops such as Winn-Dixie, Bealls and Dollar General. Among the several locally owned restaurants, The Gennie Deli is a popular stop for anyone heading to or from a day at the springs. It’s connected to a campsite and known for its burgers and boiled peanuts. For any shopping at major big-box stores such as Walmart Supercenter and Target, residents must make the 30-mile trek to Gainesville.
Schooling at nearby Bell
Most kids in the area will attend public schools in the Gilchrist County School District, which has an overall B grade on Niche. Bell Elementary, rated a B, has a Media Center that acts as both an additional library and broadcast center for student-led livestreams. Nearby Bell High School is effectively a combined middle and high school, teaching sixth through 12th grades and receiving a B-plus on Niche
Commuting to Gainesville via Interstate 75
The neighborhood is bordered by Florida State Road 47 to the west and U.S. Route 27 to the east, which funnels into I-75. Residents are about 30 miles from the heart of Gainesville. The Gainesville Regional Airport, which is serviced by American, Delta and Silver Airlines, is 31 miles away, about a 40-minute drive. While the nearby city of Alachua has urgent care centers, the major medical centers — Shands Hospital and North Florida Hospital — are in Gainesville.
