Coastal-living along the York River
Established in 1636 under the name Crab Neck, Seaford has a long and colorful maritime history, and many of the locals can trace their lineage back to the original fishing and oyster-farming families that first settled on the banks of the Chesapeake Bay. Seaford doesn’t get the same amount of attention as Yorktown, its historic neighbor to the north, but the close-knit residents seem to prefer it that way. “Seaford is one of those places where your neighbors wave at you even if they’ve already seen you three times that day,” says Mike Pattison, a Realtor and team leader of Envision VA Home with eXp Realty. “They will knock on your door and say, ‘Hey, I’m going to the store to get some sugar, do you need anything?’ That’s Seaford.”
Fishing excursions on the Chesapeake Bay
Seaford is a true ocean-front community, and the intricate system of inlets branching into the community provides plenty of space for fishing piers, marinas, boat ramps and yacht clubs. Mills Marina offers easy access to the York River, Mobjack Bay and Southern Chesapeake Bay, and residents can rent boats or hire guides for day trips and overnight fishing excursions. The Seaford Yacht Club organizes local sailing competitions and sponsors educational programs and clean-up projects to maintain the health of the local waterways. For those who prefer to stay on dry land, the Back Creek Park is home to pickleball, basketball and tennis courts, with open space for picnics and playdates. On rainy days, locals drive to AMF York Bowling Lanes or the McReynolds Athletic Complex, and on weekends, residents can make the short drive to Yorktown Beach.

Classic Colonials and Cape Cods
The quiet streetscapes winding throughout Seaford’s residential subdivisions assume one of two distinct personas. Seaford’s older Colonials and Cape Cods are set within the dense low-lying forests along one of Seaford’s many creeks, creating a more rural “river house” feel within the old streets and towering trees along the outermost fingers of the peninsula. The rest of the neighborhood is far more suburban, trading the deep wooded lots for freshly manicured lawns and wide-open walkable streets. Many of the homes in these subdivisions are new construction homes, featuring large garages, outdoor living space and Craftsman-inspired accents. Homes in Seaford typically sell for $300,000 to $650,000, providing lots of architectural options and price points for potential home buyers.
Many homes in Seaford feature Colonial-style architecture.

Shopping at the Shops at Yorktown
The George Washington Memorial Highway draws a straight line down the neck of the Newport News Peninsula, and residents of Seaford must make the three-mile drive west from their homes to access the shopping and dining along this commercial corridor. The Shops at Yorktown provide small retail stores and a Kroger Supermarket, and the Seaford Country Market is a convenient resource for snacks, drinks, sub sandwiches and other necessities for a day out on the water. Lunch and dinner are served at Dare Deli & Steamhouse, where locals can enjoy fresh seafood on the outdoor picnic tables or fill up growlers from one of the many local beers on tap. On weekends, the dance floor and billiard tables at Second Chances Bar are the most popular spots in Seaford.

The Coleman Memorial Bridge provides access to Gloucester Point, while Interstate 64 connects Seaford to Norfolk and Virginia Beach.
