Tight-knit community 12 miles west of Boston
One of Newton’s thirteen villages, Thompsonville offers top-rated schools, a luxury shopping area and homes on quiet streets 12 miles west of Boston. Locals love the neighborhood’s proximity to Webster Woods Conservation Area, where there’s plenty of space to take in nature and relax outdoors. Major highways lead throughout Massachusetts, and neighborhood thoroughfares take residents to the rest of Newton, where each village offers something different. “It’s kind of like New York City,” says Realtor Sheri Flagler with Coldwell Banker, who has nearly two decades of experience selling in the area. “Each little neighborhood offers something different, but people know their neighbors. At 230 acres, Webster Woods Conservation Area is the largest protected area in Newton. Most of the trails are natural, offering scenic escapes to residents. However, Flagler says there are efforts to make the area more walkable, particularly around Hammon Pond – a popular spot to fish, hike, rock climb or cross-country ski. “They’re adding sidewalks around the Hammon Pond area, along Hammond Parkway,” Flagler explains. “They lead from the park to the Chestnut Hill shopping area. It’s linking the area, making it more walkable.” Kids love the Thompsonville Playground, which sits in the center of the neighborhood, while families frequent Weeks Park, where there’s open space for dogs and children to play, as well as benches for relaxing or reading.
