Scenery, serenity, convenience and community in Norfolk
Norfolk, Massachusetts, blends country charm with suburban convenience approximately 30 miles southwest of Boston and 28 miles north of Providence, Rhode Island. “When we say you get the best of both worlds, you do,” says Danielle Rochefort, a Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway Page Realty and long-time Norfolk resident. “If you want more space and quiet but still work in a city, it’s perfect.” While residents may appreciate the stately homes on country roads and tucked in secluded pockets, access to major highways and commuter rail, and nearby natural areas, according to Rochefort, the most important element of Norfolk’s character may be its community spirit. “It’s the people, honestly,” Rochefort says. “I was blown away by how friendly, inviting and welcoming everyone was. People step up and help each other.”

Elegant estates and colonial designs blend suburban and rural character
The median single-family home price here is about $835,000. Homes spend about a month on the market, on average. Private estates with acres of ground and large Craftsman or Colonial Revival homes can cost up to $3.2 million, while small bungalows and cottages run in the $400,000s. Less extravagant colonial designs or ranch-style properties often cost between $500,000 and $700,000. Some homes line narrow country roads, while others lie in secluded suburban pockets surrounded by tall trees and manicured lawns with sidewalks. “It’s beautiful here,” Rochefort says. “It’s very scenic. Country roads and open spaces.”

King Phillip schools and regional programs provide education options
H. Olive Day School serves pre-kindergarten through second grade and earns a B from Niche. Freeman-Kennedy School scores an A-minus and serves grades three through six. In seventh grade, students join the King Philip Regional School District, which serves Norfolk, Plainville and Wrentham students together. King Philip Middle School earns a B-plus, as does King Philip High School. “There’s a phenomenal music program from elementary through high school,” Rochefort says. “It’s a rich program in many different areas.” High school students can also attend one of the area’s specialty schools, such as Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical High School or Norfolk County Agricultural High School. Niche gives these programs B grades.

The town hosts events throughout the year, such as a Memorial Day parade and a winter tree lighting and Santa parade. The Norfolk Farmers Market sets up next door to the library in Town Hill, running Wednesdays from June through September. “There’s so much going on,” Rochefort says. “We have concerts on Town Hill every Thursday night in summer. The Lions Club does a Haunted Train Ride together with the Norfolk Community League. There’s the Garden Club, the Historical Society. There are a lot of great organizations helping folks.”

Logan International Airport is about 32 miles away. MetroWest Medical Center is about 14 miles north, and Sturdy Memorial Hospital is about 15 miles south.
