Convenient location
Norview is a Norfolk neighborhood with comparatively lower-priced homes. This community of nearly 700 homes offers 20th century properties, proximity to major roads and public schools within walking distance. The neighborhood is close to job opportunities, sitting 5 miles north of downtown Norfolk and seven miles southwest of Naval Station Norfolk. “Much of Norview was developed during and just after WWII when the Norfolk Naval Base experienced major growth,” says Ryan Ryckman, a Realtor with The Real Estate Group, who’s been selling homes nearby for over 15 years.
"Charm of older homes" attracts buyers
The neighborhood’s homes are congregated along a traditional grid structure with cul-de-sacs. The streets in Norview are lined with sidewalks, streetlights and mature oak trees. Modest Cape Cods, Craftsman homes and rowhouses from the 20th century make up many of the single-family homes. There are also a few modern styles built within the past five years around the neighborhood. Houses here are usually listed for as long as the national average, selling after around 41 days on the market. Norview homes typically sell for between $150,000 to $300,000. “People buying in Norview are value shoppers who appreciate the charm of older homes,” says Ryckman.

Easy access to I-64
Norview is mostly car dependent with Interstate 64 running parallel to the neighborhood homes. Downtown Norfolk is 5 miles south and takes about 20 minutes by car. The community also has several public bus stops along Chesapeake Boulevard. “Norfolk has a robust bus line that connects to all of Hampton Roads, as well as Norfolk’s light rail,” says Ryckman. Norfolk International Airport, the largest in Hampton Roads, is located 2 miles east. Because of Norview’s proximity to the interstate and the airport, there may be some additional ambient noise.
Free lunch at Norfolk City Public Schools
Norfolk City Public Schools serves the neighborhood’s students. Kids may start at Norview Elementary School, which gets a C-minus grade from Niche, before transitioning to Norview Middle School, which also has a C-minus. Students may then attend Norview High School, which has a B rating. The school district recently expanded its breakfast and lunch programs to include free meals each school day for all enrolled students.
