Running wild at Riverpoint Park and the Virginia Zoo

Riverpoint Park is a popular outdoor gathering space. It features swings, several climbing structures and a slide. The entire park is shaded by enormous pines and oaks, making it a comfortable play area during Virginia’s warmer months. About 2 miles down Granby Street is the Virginia Zoo, which offers day camps and numerous wildlife exhibits. Next door, Lafayette Park is 32 acres of athletic courts, green space, a boat ramp and a playground.

Norfolk Collegiate and public-school options

Riverpoint students can attend Norfolk Public Schools. The district serves about 27,000 students starting at age 3 and employs over 2,500 teachers across dozens of schools. Primary students can attend Granby Elementary School, which rates a C-minus on Niche and then head to Blair Middle School, which scores a C. Granby High School earns a B-minus and offers over 15 different sports teams, including football, cheerleading and wrestling. Less than 2 miles away is the A-rated kindergarten through 12th grade private option, Norfolk Collegiate School, founded in 1948. Norfolk Collegiate offers AP Capstone programs and outdoor learning labs, providing students with opportunities across various fields of study.

Riverpoint is a primarily residential neighborhood without restaurants or shopping areas. Locals often buy their groceries at the Harris Teeter about 2 miles away and grab other essentials at the Walmart Supercenter or Food Lion that are 3 miles from the community. Farmers market in Riverpoint

Greater Norfolk area locals gather in Riverpoint for the seasonal Talbot Park Farmers Market twice a month. Vendors include premium pickle stands, eco-friendly soap companies and local wineries.
