Tanners Creek is a small neighborhood in Norfolk with lower-priced homes compared to the rest of the city. The friendly price doesn’t compromise on available amenities, as several retailers and outdoor attractions are just a short drive away. “You’re close to the beach without having a lot of tourists in the summer,” says D'Alfred Shaw, a Realtor for Swell Real Estate Co, who’s been selling homes in the area for five years.

Ranches, colonials and townhomes
Apartments make up most of the availability in the neighborhood, but there's a small variety of homes for sale as well. In Tanners Creek, you’ll find 20th-century ranches, colonials and townhomes with brick and vinyl exteriors. Houses are congregated along gridded streets with sidewalks and streetlights, and tall elm trees tower over the neighborhood. Homes feature manicured front and back yards, driveways and attached garages. Tanners Creek homes only stay on the market for an average of 9 days and typically sell for between $150,000 to $350,000.

Easy Access to HWY 64 from Tanners Creek.
Close to I-64 and a robust transportation system
Tanners Creek is a somewhat bikeable area, but a car may be necessary to access the rest of the city’s amenities. Interstate 64 is nearby and provides quick access to the rest of Hampton Roads. For job opportunities, downtown Norfolk is 5 miles south, about 30 minutes by car, and Naval Station Norfolk is just 3 miles west, or around 10 minutes driving on I-64. “There’s a lot of commuters here,” says Shaw. Norfolk International Airport is the largest in Hampton Roads and is just 2 miles east. Because of Tanners Creek’s proximity to the interstate and the airport, there may be some additional ambient noise. There are also several public bus stops along North Military Highway with daily service to the rest of the city.
Nearby shopping centers and outlet malls
A standalone Lidl and a Food Lion in Bromley Shopping Center are the closest grocery stores. K & T Food Mart is a popular family-owned convenience store in the neighborhood. Little Creek Square is an additional shopping center nearby that offers an ALDI, Walmart Neighborhood Market and a Big Lots. The Norfolk Premium Outlets are 3 miles east and offer a variety of niche retailers and boutiques. There are also popular local restaurants close by like Plate Me Please for fresh and locally sourced seafood, Salmich's for burgers and hoagies and Sharks Sports Bar and Grill for pints and pub dishes.
