Bloomington Knockers’ home field
Lying about a mile southwest of Kingsridge, White Oak Park holds a lake, a paved trail and a playground, but it’s mostly known as the home of the Bloomington Knockers, one of the city’s first youth football leagues. “That was my little league team growing up,” says Jaiden Snodgrass, RE/MAX Rising Realtor, who was also born and raised in Bloomington-Normal. “The team is still managed by the same family, the Segobiano family.” Two miles northwest of the community, little champions can practice their home runs at Maxwell Park’s Champion Fields or join a pickup game at the park’s basketball courts. The park also has a dog park, with separate areas for larger and smaller dogs.Championship high school soccer and NCAA football
Kingsridge is home to Oakdale Elementary School, so families can walk their kindergarten through fifth-grade students to school. Kingsley Junior High School serves sixth through eighth-grade students a block west of the neighborhood. Oakdale and Kingsley both earn a B on Niche. Home to a girls’ soccer team that’s won four “Big Twelve Conference” titles and qualified for two Illinois High School Association State Tournaments, Normal Community West High School earns a B-plus. Illinois State University is a block away, so young adults don’t have to go far to get a post-secondary education. With Hancock Stadium a short walk away, families never have to miss a Redbird game.Mostly ranch-style homes
Snodgrass says Kingsridge is mainly filled with ranch-style homes, but split-level and colonial revival-style homes add some variety to the landscape. “There are also a couple of streets with condos and duplexes,” he says. Homes range in price from $130,000 to $265,000. The median price is $185,000, up 7% from the previous year.Getting around with Connect Transit
Sidewalks are widely available in Kingsridge, though not along every street. There are sidewalks along West College Avenue and West Hovey Avenue, so residents can walk to North Main Street restaurants just about half a mile east. Connect Transit bus stops also line West College and West Hovey, so residents can take public transportation to further reaches of Bloomington-Normal. Heading two miles southwest, drivers reach Interstate 55, connecting them to the nation’s network of highways and putting St. Louis 162 miles away.Games at the Corn Crib
Two miles north of Kingsridge, The Corn Crib Stadium hosts home games for Normal’s CornBelters, the city’s collegiate summer baseball team, and Heartland Community College’s Hawks baseball team. Normal LIVE brings live music to the city as a summer concert series from late spring to early fall. In August, the city celebrates its agricultural roots with the Sweet Corn Circus, hyping festival-goers with live music, local food trucks and plenty of corn.Collectible cards, ice cream and restaurants
In addition to grading sports, Pokémon, magic and other collectible cards, Ace Card Grading creates custom cards and offers ultrasonic welding services to secure cards for life. “We specialize in sports cards,” Harmison says. “But we can grade any card that fits our slab.” Fast Stop is the neighborhood’s family-owned corner store, offering snacks, drinks and other quick-grab items. Perfectly placed to serve teams that practice at Maxwell Park, Carl’s Ice Cream Factory is the only shop in Bloomington-Normal that crafts its own premium hard ice creams and offers a full menu of sandwiches and burgers. Less than half a mile east, North Main Street holds Avanti’s Italian Restaurant as well as Buffalo Wild Wings and other chain restaurants. For fresh produce and other groceries, Kingsridge families can head to Jewel-Osco on South Cottage Avenue or Walmart on West Market Street.Auto and chocolate manufacturers
As one of the neighborhood’s largest employers, the Rivian automotive factory is about five miles west of Kingsridge. Six miles south of the neighborhood is the Ferrero factory, which creates and distributes more than 35 brands of sweet treats.
