Normal’s Maple Wood neighborhood is filled with suburban homes, but it’s woven through with natural elements that residents love. “The Constitution Trail is a huge perk for a lot of people,” says Jaiden Snodgrass, Realtor with RE/MAX Rising. The trail, covering roughly 37 miles of old railroad land, takes bikers, hikers and walkers to other neighborhoods throughout the Bloomington-Normal metro area. Sugar Creek also winds through the neighborhood, paved in some sections and wooded in others.

However, one custom home built next to Sugar Creek sold for $800,000 in January 2024. “The neighborhood has homes with lower price points than the rest of the area,” Snodgrass says. “But it has a few kickers that sell for way more.” The neighborhood is almost entirely ranch-style homes, though there are some traditional two-story homes in the neighborhood. Prices range from about $150,000 to $400,000.

Direct access to the Constitution Trail
Underwood Park gives resident pickleballers a place to play. The park also has a playground for kids, basketball courts and a large picnic shelter. Residents can also enjoy Ewing Park, which Snodgrass says was once privately owned but is now cared for by the city. “The house and grounds were donated to ISU, and they use it for plays and other stuff,” he says. The park is split into three large sections and holds playgrounds, trails and the Moriyama Japanese Garden. The natural gem of the neighborhood, though, is Constitution Trail. Bikers, hikers and walkers traverse the trail throughout warmer months, following the roughly 37 miles of the trail to trailheads all over the Bloomington-Normal area.
