A Normal trio of subdivisions
North Bridge is a pocket of three separate suburban subdivisions tucked away from the rest of Bloomington-Normal. North Fields, Heather Ridge and North Bridge sit just north of Normal’s Ironwood Golf Course and less than a mile north of Interstate 55. The neighborhood is surrounded by farmland on three sides, and all three subdivisions connect to Veterans Parkway, which residents access to Normal’s nearby shopping and dining scene. “As soon as you get on Veterans Parkway and pass under the interstate, then everything is right there,” says Mark Bowers, Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway Central Illinois Realtors. “It’s outside the hustle and bustle of Normal, but also very close to everything.”

Hudson Elementary north of Normal
Hudson Elementary School is one of the attractions to living in North Bridge, Bowers says. “People like that they can send their kids to a smaller elementary school, but they can still attend District 5,” he says. North Bridge students attend elementary school at Hudson Elementary School, which sits in the town of Hudson, just north of Normal. The school serves kindergarten through fifth grade and earns a B on Niche. Kingsley Junior High School serves grades six through eight and also earns a B. The girls’ soccer team of Normal Community West High School—which serves North Bridge high school students—has won four Big Twelve Conference titles and qualified for two Illinois High School Association State Tournaments. Normal Community West earns a B-plus.

Fishing at Large Lake and access to 37 miles of trail
Weaving between North Fields and Heather Ridge, Constitution Trail is a paved trail that runs throughout the Bloomington-Normal metro area. The trail is popular among bikers, hikers and runners and covers 37 miles of old railway property. North Bridge subdivision includes two lakes, frequented by Canadian geese and populated with several species of fish. Residents may use non-motorized watercraft on the lakes, and catch and release fishing is permitted. Directly south of the neighborhood is Normal’s Ironwood Golf Course, a par 72 golf course. Less than 3 miles south along Veterans Parkway, dogs can run around the Shepard Park Dog Park, and the kids can climb and slide on the park’s playground.
The Constitution Trail cuts right through the middle of North Bridge and provides a safe area for daily walks.

Shopping and dining along Veterans Parkway
A short trip down Veterans Parkway puts North Bridge residents in the thick of the city’s shopping and dining offerings, Bowers says. “There’s Portillo’s restaurant, Menards, DESTIHL, Sam’s Club and Walmart,” he says. “It’s really convenient.” On the other side of Interstate 55 from North Normal, DESTIHL is a staple brewery of Normal, serving a full menu of pub fare alongside its selection of craft beers. Famous for its hot dogs and sandwiches, Portillo’s started in Chicago and now has a location on Landmark Drive, about 2 miles south of North Bridge. In the same commercial corridor as Portillo’s, residents can shop at national chains like Target and Walmart. A bit farther south, just under 5 miles from North Bridge, Eastland Mall offers a full mall experience with stores like Old Navy and Journeys.

Home prices increase moving north
North Fields, Heather Ridge and North Bridge all merge, though each differs in lot sizes and living experiences. Starting in North Fields, the neighborhood’s southernmost subdivision, lot sizes and home prices increase moving north into Heather Ridge and North Bridge. “North Bridge is the pinnacle of pricing in that area,” Bowers says. “Rightfully so, since they have the biggest lot sizes.” Some North Bridge lots are waterfront on the subdivisions two lakes. Home styles are relatively consistent throughout each section, ranging from ranch-style homes to two-story colonial and traditional-style homes. Prices in North Fields range from $250,000 to $335,000, while Heather Ridge homes range from $300,000 to $445,000. North Bridge does offer a small selection of townhomes that typically sell around $250,000, but single-family homes in the subdivision sell between $400,000 and $600,000.

Interstate 55 a half-mile away
Bloomington-Normal’s Connect Transit bus system does not reach North Bridge, but residents have quick access to Interstate 55 about half a mile south. With the interstate so close, residents are about 135 miles away from downtown Chicago. North Bridge's streets are lined with sidewalks, and all three subdivisions connect to the Constitution Trail, so residents can get their steps in at home or walk to other neighborhoods all over Bloomington-Normal.
The CornBelters and Cruisin’ Uptown
Five miles southwest of North Bridge, Normal’s CornBelters baseball team practices and hosts games at their stadium, The Corn Crib. From late spring to early fall, Normal LIVE brings live music to the city as a summer concert series. In August, Bloomington-Normal residents break out their best classic and contemporary cars for Cruisin’ Uptown Normal. Besides showcasing hundreds of cars, the show features live music and vendors from all over the city.
