Home values up 10% from past year
Developed from the 1960s to the 1980s, Pleasant Hills is an established neighborhood with classic styling, larger lots and mature trees. Townhouses are available, but much of the neighborhood holds single-family homes that range from ranch-style homes to split-level and traditional two-story homes. “The quality of home you get for the money is great,” Hansen says. “Resale values in Pleasant Hills have been good for 40 years.” Townhouses sell between $175,000 and $290,000, while single-family homes range from $200,000 to $325,000. Up 10% from the previous year, the median home price is $257,000. Hansen, who has sold homes in Bloomington-Normal since 2015 and now leads the seven-person Team NexWell, says homes in Pleasant Hills don’t stay on the market long. As his team works with buyers, he says they always consider how easily a homebuyer can sell later. “And Pleasant Hills is absolutely a place where they’ll be able to sell quickly.”Colene Hoose Elementary School within the neighborhood
Colene Hoose offers kindergarten through fifth grade near the intersection of East Vernon Avenue and Grandview Drive, and Chiddix Junior High School sits next to Anderson Park and serves Pleasant Hills’ middle school students. Students attending Normal Community West High School will walk the same halls trekked by former Illinois State Representative Adam Kinzinger. All three of Pleasant Hill’s schools earn a B-plus on Niche. Students who want to continue their education after high school can head a mile-and-a-half west to Illinois State University or roughly two miles southwest to Illinois Wesleyan University.Plentiful shopping and dining along Veterans Parkway
Just east of Pleasant Hills, Veterans Parkway hosts one of Normal’s largest corridors of businesses and restaurants. Residents can shop at big box stores, including Target and Best Buy, and dine at local eateries such as Flingers Pizza Pub and DESTIHL Restaurant. When pantries need restocking, there's a Kroger near the intersection of East College Avenue and Veterans Parkway. West of the neighborhood, a collection of Uptown Normal shops and restaurants surround a grassy knoll known as The Circle. The area is also home to the Children’s Discovery Museum, which helps kids learn through hands-on exhibits.Summer swimming at Anderson Park
During the summer, families and swimmers head to Anderson Park, which holds an outdoor pool and waterpark. Anderson is also home to two playgrounds, a baseball field and a small trail that connects to Karin Drive. When residents need more than neighborhood sidewalks, they can access the Constitution Trail at East Vernon Avenue. The paved trail is a favorite among local bikers and hikers, covers 37 miles of former railway land and connects to neighborhoods throughout Bloomington-Normal.Special Olympics and the Holiday Parade
Live entertainment is common throughout Normal in the summertime. Normal LIVE is a summer series featuring live performing arts and music. The series brings different performances to venues around Normal, including The Circle. In the summer, Illinois State University hosts the Special Olympics Illinois Summer Games, bringing thousands of athletes and volunteers to the area. In the winter, the Bloomington-Normal Jaycees Holiday Parade entertains revelers along miles of streets throughout the metro area.Connect Transit bus stops, Amtrak, and Central Illinois Regional Airport nearby
Most of Pleasant Hills’ streets have sidewalks on at least one side, and popular commercial corridors lie less than a mile east and west. For residents who would rather ride the bus, Connect Transit bus stops line East College Avenue and Vernon Avenue. Veterans Parkway is about a half-mile east and connects drivers to Interstate 55, which puts downtown Chicago about 130 miles away. For air travel, the Central Illinois Regional Airport at Bloomington-Normal is just 4 miles southwest. “You can also catch an Amtrak at The Circle,” Hansen says. “Then you can be in Chicago in a couple of hours.”
