Locals are just blocks from Norman's Main Street. Early birds snag a table at Neighborhood JAM to chow on a Hot Jam Biscuit or some lemon poppyseed pancakes in a quirky atmosphere. If the wait at the JAM is too long, they head down to longstanding local restaurants in Campus Corner, a lively dining and retail district across the street from OU. Midway Grocery & Market pairs 1950s-style corner store shopping with tasty deli sandwiches; a Walmart Supercenter and a Sprouts Farmers Market are also blocks away.
OU games and Norman community events
The Santa Fe Depot train station serves as a reminder of the area's past and as a hub for current community events. Original Townsite residents head to The Depot, an art center inside the station, for local concerts, emerging artists exhibits, comedy nights, and more. The 2nd Friday Norman Art Walk also brings the community together each month, and students and nonstudents cheer on the Sooners at Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
Norman School District options
Jefferson Elementary School, located at the site of Norman's first-ever school, sits north of Original Townsite and earns an A-minus from Niche. Upon graduation, students head down the street to Longfellow Middle School, which earns a B-plus. Ninth through 12th graders attend Norman North High School, which earns an A. Norman North is home to the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program that helps ensure that students who may be struggling academically get the help they need to be able to participate in college prep and AP courses.
Visiting local parks and walking the Legacy Trail
Young children explore the padded playground under plenty of tree cover at small-yet-mighty McGeorge Park at the center of Original Townsite. The community is also blocks away from Legacy Trail, a 1.5-mile rail-with-trail paralleling the active BSNF railway that arrives at Santa Fe Depot. For a full day outdoors, larger city parks sit north and south of the neighborhood.
Commuting from Original Townsite
Those commuting to downtown Oklahoma City reach the city limits via a 20-mile straight shot on Interstate 35, by taking the daily Heartland Flyer from Santa Fe Depot, or via EMBARK, OKC's bus system. Will Rogers World Airport is a slightly longer haul at about 22 miles on the Interstate. Meanwhile, Norman Regional Hospital and its surrounding offices are less than a mile from Original Townsite; commuters can feasibly walk or bike there. Students living in Original Townsite are just 1.5 miles from Oklahoma University's North Oval and about 2 miles from Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
Flood risk and train sounds in Original Townsite
Parts of the Original Townsite community are on the banks of Bishop Creek, one of Oklahoma's major watersheds. Potential homebuyers should know that the banks tend to overflow during heavy rainfall.
