North Miami Beach is known as the “Crossroads of South Florida” for its central coastal location, halfway between Miami and Fort Lauderdale. The growing city of roughly 43,000 is just a bridge away from beautiful beaches, but there’s plenty to do within city limits, from tropical hikes to upscale waterfront dining. Lifelong resident Jonathan Mankes, a Realtor with Majestic Prime Realty, says his city is also home to a large Jewish community. “There are more than ten synagogues in North Miami Beach, and they’re within walking distance of each other,” he says. Mankes has sold homes in the city for around 20 years. “We’re more lowkey, a lot more affordable and a bit more family-oriented than Miami.” Healthcare is the leading industry in North Miami Beach, featuring several medical centers. Greynolds Park and Oleta River State Park
Pocket parks and neighborhood playgrounds can be found across the city, but locals head to Greynolds Park or Oleta River State Park for the most recreational opportunities. Both parks are set along the Oleta River, making them favorites among local kayakers, boaters and anglers. Established in 1933, Greynolds Park is Miami-Dade County’s second-oldest park. In the 1960s, it was a hippie hangout, and folks from all over would come for peaceful, musical gatherings known as “love-ins,” which featured performances from the likes of the Grateful Dead and other counterculture bands. Today, the annual Love-in Music Festival celebrates that period and is on its 20th year of bringing back the boho vibes. From Greynolds Park, the river flows southeast into Oleta River State Park, where it opens to the Biscayne Bay. At more than 1,000 acres, the state park is the largest urban park in Florida. It's known for its beautiful mangroves, trails and campgrounds.
