North Middleton Township is a growing suburb with rural charm

North Middleton Township is a semirural community just north of Carlisle. While much of this historically agricultural township's area is still made up of farmland, most of its residents live in modern subdivisions and commute to either Carlisle or Harrisburg for work. "There's not a whole lot out there apart from houses or farms, but I think that's kind of the point," says Realtor Shannon Kincaid of Berkshire Hathaway HomeSale Realty, who has lived in the area for nearly 25 years. "Most of the homes are just north of Carlisle, so it's just a short drive to any part of town."

Modern subdivisions just north of Carlisle

Farm houses can be found scattered around North Middleton, but the vast majority of the local housing inventory is concentrated in newer subdivisions in the southern parts of the township. Areas closer to Carlisle mostly feature midcentury ranch-style houses and split-levels, while developments farther out are made up of New Traditional two-story homes. Some properties back up onto the surrounding woods and farmland, but many of the subdivision homes sit closer together on traditional suburban streets. Midcentury properties generally sell for between $170,000 and $200,000, while most modern builds sell for between $310,000 and $665,000. Townhouses usually go for $200,000 to $390,000, while manufactured homes can go for anywhere from $40,000 to $165,000. Flood risk is a concern for some homes in the area, particularly those close to Conodoguinet Creek.

Local parks, Conodoguinet Creek boating and road cycling opportunities

There are several local parks in and around the township's subdivisions. North Middleton Park, Village Park and Creekview Park offer athletic fields, playgrounds and walking trails. Cave Hill Nature Center on the south bank of Conodoguinet Creek offers access to well-known local caves, though cave exploration is discouraged by local authorities. The creek itself runs through much of North Middleton and is popular with fishing and boating enthusiasts. The public 18-hole Eagles Crossing Golf Course offers scenic views of the surrounding hills and waterways. The township has also become a popular spot for cyclists. "My husband goes biking up there all the time," says Kincaid. "There's lots of great scenery and the roads aren't too crowded."
