Barefoot offers a coastal lifestyle with abundant recreation options
Barefoot residents enjoy resort living along manicured fairways in North Myrtle Beach. This golf course community just off the Intracoastal Waterway and 2 miles from the beach has extensive recreation options for both seasonal visitors and full-time residents. Outside of boating, golfing and laying out on the sand, Barefoot is minutes from all the tourist-friendly entertainment, shopping and dining the town offers. “It’s a golf resort lifestyle. People absolutely love it. You have easy access to all of the Barefoot Landing restaurants, shopping, nightlife, all that sort of stuff,” says John Campbell, North Myrtle Beach resident and Realtor at Century 21 Thomas.
Golfing and boating on-site, and a shuttle to the beach
The Norman, Love, Fazio and Dye courses challenge golfers among the coastal scenery, featuring fairways lined with live oaks, native plants and water features. The resort grounds also have pickleball courts, several pools and walking paths throughout the community, among other recreational amenities. The Intracoastal Waterway flows through Barefoot, and the resort has its own marina and yacht club. Residents can hang out on their pontoon boats, motor down to the ocean or float across the waterway to Barefoot Landing, where they can enjoy a show at the Alabama Theater or enjoy dinner and a drink out. The beach is about 2 miles away, and the resort offers a free seasonal shuttle to the Barefoot Resort Beach Cabana. “The shuttle takes people to and from the cabana and the beach, but most people just jump on their own golf cart and go,” Campbell says.
Shopping, dining and events at Barefoot Landing
Barefoot Landing has nearly 100 options for dining, shopping and entertainment just across the Intracoastal Waterway. Set around a man-made lake, the Broadway at the Beach shopping mall is one part retail therapy, one part beachside boardwalk. Visitors can beat the heat with heaping scoops of ice cream from Sweet Molly’s Creamery, pick up gifts and souvenirs at The Mole Hole and Tiki Jim’s, and enjoy beer and barbecue at Dick’s Last Resort. The mall is also home to Ripley’s Aquarium, WonderWorks amusement park and a wide variety of other shops and restaurants. Tanger Outlets is also just down the road, and for grocery runs, Barefoot Market & Cafe has basics on the resort grounds, while Food Lion is just outside the community.
SummerFest! at Barefoot Landing lights up the pavilion during peak season with weekly fireworks and nightly entertainment, including cover bands, stilt walkers and jugglers. The complex keeps the good vibes going year-round with seasonal events like a tree lighting during the holidays and kids’ activities like “Chick or Treat” for Easter.
A variety of properties among the fairways of Barefoot Resort
Barefoot has a selection of condos, apartments and single-family homes that cater to full- and part-time residents, as well as short-term vacationers. The community weaves through the resort’s four golf courses, and some properties have views of the rolling fairways. A two-bedroom condo unit typically sells for between $200,000 and $370,000, and townhouses go for between $320,000 and $620,000. Single-family homes start at around $370,000 and range to $1.3 million. Homes on the lower end of the range include modest coastal cottages, and New Traditional style properties with two-car garages represent the mid-range options. The most expensive properties feature contemporary design elements, spacious floor plans and amenities like private inground pools. Barefoot’s CAP Index crime score is a 2, lower than the national average of 4.

Highway 31 and Route 17 take drivers across the region
South Carolina Highway 31 goes through the community and connects to downtown Myrtle Beach and Myrtle Beach International Airport, both about 15 miles away. U.S. Route 17 also takes drivers to Myrtle Beach and across the region. Medical facilities like the Grand Strand Medical Center and North Strand Emergency Room are within a 15-minute drive of Barefoot.
Residents voiced concerns over development leading to floods
Most of Barefoot Resort is not in an official flood zone. However, in late 2024, the North Myrtle Beach City Council approved a development plan for several dozen new homes in the community. These homes would be in a flood outfall between Highway 22 and Highway 31, which currently helps mitigate flooding. Some residents voiced opposition to this development due to the possibility of increased flood risk.
