Known for its suburban feel, North New Hyde Park is 22 miles from New York City and a hamlet within North Hempstead. Appreciated for its accessibility to turnpikes and parkways, residents can access outside shopping, dining, recreation and employment. “Within a half hour, you could be in Manhattan, on the beach, in the mountains in lower Westchester,” says Lisa Walsh, an associate broker at Floral Homes, Inc., who grew up in New Hyde Park and sells real estate in both locations. “Within a few hours, you can be skiing the slopes in upstate New York or hobnobbing with celebrities in the Hamptons.” Residents also appreciate shopping, dining and recreation, with restaurants and strip malls lining major roadways and the Spring Rock Golf Center in their backyard.

In 2022, North New Hyde Park's population was 14.7k people with a median income of $149,235.

Residents work locally or commute using the Long Island Rail Road

Commuters take the Northern State Parkway and the Grand Central Parkway to New York City, arriving in under an hour, depending on traffic. Those wanting to avoid city traffic reach Grand Central Terminal in under an hour using the Long Island Rail Road at the New Hyde Park stop, 1 mile away from the hamlet. Nassau Inter-County Express also has buses that take residents to New Hyde Park train station and other areas within Nassau County, Queens and Suffolk County. The John F. Kennedy International Airport is 10 miles away using the Cross Island Parkway. Northwell North Shore University Hospital provides emergency services and medical assistance 3 miles away.

Walsh points out how close residents are to their jobs. “There are so many employment options! A significant portion of residents work in the surrounding hospital systems, our school system, our professional office complexes, retail, real estate, state, county, town or village employment,” says Walsh. “Many also choose a short commute to NYC, typically via the LIRR, express buses or bus to NYC MTA subway.” Northwell Health Core Laboratories occupies a corner of North New Hyde Park and has several specialty offices within and surrounding the lab. Nearby is the Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Besides healthcare, education and retail are also major employers in the area.

1940s homes in an established community

Homes line gridded and winding streets that make up the central part of North New Hyde Park. Most of the hamlet has single-family homes with small yards. Many homes also have long driveways, detached garages, solar-paneled roofs. Cape Cod, Colonial Revival, split-level and raised ranch styles are common in the area, with a median build year of 1945. “As an established neighborhood, there is not a lot of area for growth,” says Walsh. “However, many homeowners are rebuilding new homes on existing lots.”

North New Hyde Park’s median home price is $920,000, higher than the $406,100 national median reported by the National Association of Realtors. The hamlet has a 1 out of 10 CAP Index crime score, lower than the national average of 4. “Safety is a priority,” says Walsh. “Even earning Nassau County the number one Safest County in America as per U.S. News & World Report.”
