Part of a strong community

Part of the city of Pembroke, North Pembroke, has its own identity, primarily based on its convenient location near the south shore, popular parks and strong community. "People who live in North Pembroke are very proud to live in that area," says Andrea Campbell, a Pembroke resident and Realtor with Success! Real Estate. "The whole city has a strong sense of community, whether we're talking about youth sports, local activities or the strong school system. Even in hard times, the spirit of the community upholds everybody." The area mixes natural space and the tranquility residents can find in those areas with easy access to roadways and businesses.

Ponds, trails and the North River

North Pembroke's environment allows residents to enjoy nature throughout the area. "Within North Pembroke," says Campbell, "You have a lot of picturesque nature preserves, walking trails and ponds that people can utilize for water activities. We do have some communities in North Pembroke that have frontage on North River, and that's specific to this area." The North River is popular for fishing, boating and kayaking. Residents also enjoy access to the sandy beaches along some of the area's ponds, where people can fish and enjoy the environment.

The sound of music

North Pembroke residents can access citywide events and activities like walking clubs, tai chi classes and movie nights. But North Pembroke has its own popular event spot, the recently opened Soundcheck Studios, where local bands play on weekends. Plus, it's also an operating recording studio. "Soundcheck Studios is a real Saturday night thing," Campbell says. The live music venue has a bar and a healthy amount of space to rock out, both for patrons and musicians, making it one of the most popular spots in the area to let loose and have a fun night.

Hot spots to eat and shop

There are a variety of shops and restaurants around Massachusetts State Route 3 at the North River Plaza. Residents can shop at big box stores and national retailers, along with local boutiques and businesses. Residents shop for groceries at Stop & Shop and have a variety of popular restaurants to choose from. "The dining scene in North Pembroke is on fire lately," says Campbell. Residents can enjoy a diverse selection of restaurants, like popular Italian spots Mother Anna's and Osteria Vivo or Route 53 Tavern, a local staple. "People come from far away to visit those spots," says Campbell.

Waterfront homes and good prices

The median home price in North Pembroke is $700,000, higher than the national average of $412,000, and the average price per square foot is $301. The median sale price for homes in this area is up 43% year over year. "You get a lot of house for your money here," says Campbell. "And properties are selling at a high speed and over asking price." Campbell says that properties along the North River are particularly sought after, "Waterfront properties are a premium around here."

Pembroke Public Schools

The city is served by Pembroke Public Schools, which has five schools that serve grades Kindergarten-12 and a B-minus rating on Niche. Students attend one of the three elementary schools, one of which is located in North Pembroke. Pembroke High School is one of the top 200 STEM schools in Massachusetts, and it has a B-minus rating on Niche. The school offers a variety of clubs and activities for students, and hockey is a popular sport in the area. "We have a strong hockey community," says Campbell.

Getting around North Pembroke

Massachusetts Route 3 runs through the center of town and provides a route into Boston, about 30 miles away, and early morning commuters can expect a 35-50-minute early morning commute. The city does not have a public transportation system and residents will have to travel to nearby cities like Middleboro, Plymouth or Halifax for access to public transportation. "North Pembroke is perfect for commuters," says Campbell. "We're located in the middle of Boston and Cape Cod." Boston Logan International is the nearest major airport, and it is about 30 miles from North Pembroke.

Crime in North Pembroke

Part of the city of Pembroke, North Pembroke, does not have its own police department, and the following crime statistics reflect the entirety of Pembroke. According to FBI statistics, there were 16 violent crimes and 45 property crimes across the city in 2022. The violent crime rate in Massachusetts is 322 crimes per 100,000 people, lower than the national average of 380.7 per 100,000 people. Pembroke, which has a population of about 18,500, has less violent crime than nearby Boston, which reported 12,710, but Boston has a much higher population than Pembroke.
