A small borough with 100-year-old homes
Steve McIntyre has stayed in North Plainfield for nearly 30 years. A member of the North Plainfield Borough Council, McIntyre has been fueled by his love for the borough's tight-knit bucolic neighborhood. "Even though we're a small town — less than 3 square miles — we have a couple of nice parks and we're close to everything," he says. A heavily residential borough, North Plainfield has shady sidewalk streets, a variety of housing styles and lush lawns. Home to the Washington Park Historic District — listed on the National Register of Historic Places — the area has Victorian homes built between 1868 and 1917. "People come here for our beautiful yet affordable neighborhoods and the diversity of our schools and activities," McIntyre says. The borough also has quaint condominiums, single-family and multifamily houses. A one-bedroom, one-bathroom condo starts around $215,000 while homes tend to be priced anywhere between $400,000 and $700,000.
