True to its penchant for persistence, Charles got a new elementary and middle school in the fall of 2023. After a multimillion-dollar renovation, the former Windmill Street Elementary School reopened as the Narducci Learning Center. Esek Hopkins Middle School enrolls 500 students in grades 6-8, and has a 13 to 1 student-teacher ratio. The stately red brick building is integrated with a residential street, giving it the feel of a true neighborhood institution. E-Cubed Academy is the area’s public high school, with nearly 350 students enrolled. Niche awarded the school a B- in the teachers category, and an A- in the diversity category.

Restaurants and chain retail line Charles Street
Both the Narducci Learning Center and Esek Hopkins Middle are situated on the namesake Charles Street, which serves as a kind of classic Main Street for the neighborhood. Here you’ll find various food markets, plus big box stores like Walmart and Home Depot. This is also where you’ll find a range of restaurants, a reminder of the neighborhood’s melting pot heritage.
