Marieville
High demand for single-family homes
Architectural styles in Marieville range from split-levels with vinyl siding to low-lying ranch-styles and bungalows on modest lots. Some homes date back to the early 1900s, but most were built in the late 1960s and ‘70s. Prices generally fall between $300,000 and $500,000 for single-family homes, and many don’t come with attached garages. Cars park in driveways under the shade of Oak and Maple trees. Prospective buyers will also find condo options and two-bedroom units can start in the mid $100,000s.Homes in Marieville sell nearly two weeks faster than the national average. “Inventory here is very low, and there’s an extremely high demand for housing,” says Quinn.
Career and Technical Education pathways at North Providence High School
Students living in Marieville can attend public schools like Whelan Elementary, which received a B-minus on the educational review site Niche, Birchwood Middle, which has a B-plus, and the B-rated North Providence High School, which has seven available Career and Technical Education pathways in fields like computer science and marine trades. Some students also enroll in private schools, and options include La Salle Academy, which received an A. 98% of students enroll in four-year colleges after graduation.Walking trails and accessible playgrounds
At the southern border of the neighborhood sits Wanskuck Park, a 25-acre expanse where residents can explore heavily wooded walking trails and bring their dogs to run around. Keep in mind: picnickers may be able to hear the sound of cars passing along Route 146. Encompass Park, which opened in 2022, is a short drive away from Marieville. Kids enjoy the wheelchair-accessible swings and merry-go-rounds, and local Little League teams can be found practicing at K C Field. There’s also Lincoln Woods to the North, widely known to be the first state park in Rhode Island. Summer days are spent at the cook-out shelters or jogging (and horseback riding) on the park trails. The area is also home to Lincoln Woods State Park Beach, where swimmers can be found splashing in the freshwater when the weather heats up.Growth along Mineral Spring Avenue and Providence Place Mall nearby
Mineral Spring Avenue serves as the neighborhood’s primary commercial thoroughfare, and residents will find everything from fast food restaurants to decades-old Italian eateries along both sides of the road. “In the last few years, there has been a rejuvenation on Mineral Spring Avenue,” says Maren Nelson, who’s lived in North Providence for over 20 years. However, “Not all restaurants are new,” she says. “Places like Twin Pizza are still there after 50-plus years in the neighborhood. Pauly Penta's 30-plus years. Shores market: 65 years.” At Pauly Penta’s Gourmet Italian Deli, residents can pick up cheesy polenta with sausage or a tomato basil frittata to reheat at home. For an on-the-go lunch, swing by Fresh Pita Twist, a mother-and-daughter-owned restaurant known for its shawarma. Residents can check items off their grocery lists at Stop & Shop, and Route 146 connects the neighborhood to Providence Place Mall, which is home to over 170 stores and restaurants as well as an IMAX movie theater — the parking garage gets notoriously busy during the holiday season.Museum passes and book clubs at North Providence Union Free Library
Marieville residents can stop by the circulation desk at the North Providence Union Free Library to pick up museum passes, which grant free (or discounted) access to popular Rhode Island destinations like the Audobon Society, the Providence Children’s Museum and the Newport Art Museum. Check the library calendar to take part in one of their regularly scheduled book clubs. Two miles north in Lincoln (near Lincoln Woods) is Bally’s Twin River, a casino hotel that also hosts touring bands. Nelson also points to St. Anthony's Church on Mineral Spring for its “regular feasts and celebrations,” adding, “The town hosts family-friendly events like Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Holiday Tree Lighting etc.,” which add to the "small town feel.” More entertainment options are always available in Downtown Providence, where Broadway tours perform at PPAC (Providence Performing Art Center) and WaterFire, a Rhode Island tradition 30 years in the making, crowds the downtown streets starting in early summer.RIPTA along major thoroughfares and T.F. Green International
Marieville is largely car-dependent, and most residents rely on their own vehicles to commute into Providence or surrounding communities. That being said, Rhode Island Public Transit (RIPTA) buses do stop along major thoroughfares like Charles Street and Mineral Spring Avenue — standard fares are $2 each way. There’s also the MBTA, which stops at the Providence Amtrak Station, providing passage to Boston along the Providence/Stoughton Line. In Rhode Island, Massachusetts is never too far away... The nearest airport is T.F. Green International, which offers nonstop service to over 30 cities, and Boston Logan International offers more options 50 miles away. Locals can seek medical care at Miriam Hospital or Rhode Island Hospital, known for the Hasbro Pediatrics Wing.
