About North Salt Lake, UT

Growing city with nature, new construction and necessities

North Salt Lake is a growing residential city in Davis County, just 8 miles from downtown Salt Lake City. Sprawling neighborhoods are surrounded by miles of natural landscape, with the Great Salt Lake to the west and the Wasatch Mountains to the east. New construction is found at the city's edges as it expands, making room for its population of over 23,700. “North Salt Lake is an interesting community because it’s kind of suburban, but the homes tend to be newer,” says Real Estate Agent Lynn Griese with Coldwell Banker, who has over 25 years of experience in the industry. “If you want a big home but want to be close to downtown Salt Lake City, you’re not that far away.” Originally settled by cattle farmers in 1847, North Salt Lake wasn’t considered a city until 1961. There's a business center to the north of the city and its primary industries include retail, transportation and manufacturing.

Newer builds and manufactured home communities

North Salt Lake’s central neighborhoods have several architectural types, including ranch-style homes, raised ranches and split levels. Manufactured home communities are common farther north. Neighborhoods west of the highways and southeast towards the mountains share similar housing options like modern Craftsman homes and farmhouses. “The homes on the foothills tend to be newer, built within the last 20 to 25 years,” Griese says. Additionally, multi-story townhouses and contemporary condos are found all over the city. The median price for a single-family home in North Salt Lake is $615,000, while townhouses sit around $470,000.

The southern shores of Farmington Bay are directly west of North Salt Lake. Legacy Nature Preserve is a wildlife refuge in the marshes. To the city’s east are the foothills of the Wasatch Mountain range. “There is great access to trails. A nice park, Tunnel Springs Park, connects to the Bonneville Shoreline Trail,” Griese says.
