The Denver Metro had a lot riding in its favor about 25 years ago. “We have beautiful weather, plenty of jobs and housing was fairly inexpensive back then,” says Brian Margolis, president of the Margolis Team at eXp Realty. The demand created by these three factors led developers to build dozens of master-planned communities like Fox Run in Northglenn’s southeast corner.
Boasting almost 1,500 houses built in the late 1990s and early 2000s, Fox Run follows a 1.3-mile section of the Fox Run Parkway from East 112th Avenue to East 104th Avenue. Its contemporary houses are packed tightly atop 5,000 to 10,000-square-foot lots on winding streets that branch off the parkway into subdivisions with names like Westbrook, Brookshire and Colony Glen. These houses fetch $400,000 to $600,000, while you can find a two or three-bedroom town house in the community for $350,000 to $500,000. Narrow, tree-lined sidewalks are present almost wherever you go in this neighborhood, so walking your dog is easy. Its streets are wide enough to accommodate a limited amount of on-street parking, so you can use the two-car garage at the front of your house for storage if you only have one car.
Margolis, who has sold several houses in Fox Run since he became a real estate agent in 2003, says this neighborhood is an ideal fit for first-time homebuyers and older adults who are downsizing and looking for a smaller place. Head south on the Fox Run Parkway, and you’ll end up at the Thornton Shopping Center, which boasts a Safeway, a Family Dollar, the Three Margaritas Mexican Restaurant, and the Vietnamese Café. This shopping center is just 2½ miles east of Interstate 25 on East 104th Street, State Route 44, and 3½ miles west of Interstate 76 on the highway. Not to mention, the Fox Run community sits directly between two stops on the Regional Transportation District’s Purple Light Rail Line – the Thornton Crossroads and 104th Station and the Northglenn and 112th Station – that offer service to Denver’s Union Station every half hour on weekdays.
Children who live in Fox Run will attend Stellar Elementary School, Northglenn Middle School, and Thurston High School. Stellar received a B on Niche, while Northglenn and Thornton received a C. Besides being the 16th best of Adams County’s 97 elementary schools according to Niche, Stellar Elementary offers a student-run news program that has 128 subscribers on YouTube. It’s hard to say whether any of the thrice-weekly updates Stellar Broadcasting students produce have led to careers in broadcast journalism, but they’re getting valuable experience in front of a camera and have a chance to talk about their favorite books.
The North Park at Fox Run, the Central Park at Fox Run, and the South Park at Fox Run each offer about two acres of open space and a small playground on the Fox Run Parkway where neighborhood children can exercise and have some fun. “Colorado gets 300 days of sunshine,” says Margolis, who sees people playing at these parks whenever he’s in the area. A trail that cuts past the historic Thede Farmhouse in the 40-acre Fox Run Nature Area gives neighborhood residents something to do when it’s nice outside, while the gymnasium and racquetball courts at the Carpenter Recreation Center provide them with something to do on the 65 days of the year when it’s not. All told, the three things Margolis says brought people to Metro Denver are still there, and you’ll find them in Fox Run.
