Northridge builds on its history as an equestrian community
Northridge is a sprawling community in the San Fernando Valley with both urban and suburban sensibilities. The area was previously known as "the horse capital of the West" due to its popularity with Hollywood celebrities who built their ranches here. Following the Second World War, the area saw one of the longest continuous real-estate booms in L.A.'s history, resulting in more residential and commercial development.
Lots of custom estates with some newer suburban development
Several large estates are scattered around the neighborhood. Many estates were custom-built with ornate historical styles, mixing the stucco walls and clay tile roofing of Mediterranean homes with the steep side gables of French country estates. Estate communities give way to more traditional suburban single-family houses set along winding avenues and street blocks, fringed by towering palms and other leafier trees. Suburban developers favored the casual living space and muted detail common in the low-built ranch and the midcentury modern style. Residents enjoy open floor plans and spacious yards where they can cultivate gardens or unwind with some lawn games. Midcentury modern homes share the ranch-style's emphasis on accessibility to nature, accentuated by floor-to-ceiling windows and a mixing of indoor and outdoor spaces. Condos and apartments are also available in the more dense parts of Northridge. The average price for a Northridge house hovers around $1,020,000, and sizes range from 3,200 to 8,400 square feet.
Home to a diverse range of grocery stores and restaurants
There are several local grocers and regional supermarkets around the neighborhood. Family Meat Market offers halal meats as well as dried and baked goods, while Mitsuwa grocery store has imported Japanese products. Residents can buy fresh produce and support local farmers at Northridge Farmer's Market, open from March to October near Northridge Fashion Center. Regional chains include Vons and Superking Markets. For restaurants, Porto's Cafe is a family-owned Cuban bakery serving excellent cheese rolls and cakes in a lively modern café space. On Parthenia Street, Brent's Deli has been serving excellent pastrami and club sandwiches over classic countertops and booths since 1967. Yard House sports bar has a wide selection of craft beers
Local public schools partner with California State University
Residents are served by primary schools like Andasol Avenue Elementary, which teaches kindergarten through fifth grade students. Students move on to intermediate and secondary schools like Northridge Middle and Northridge Academy High Schools. Northridge Academy High has a partnership with the nearby California State University of Northridge to provide programs that expand learning opportunities and provide students with pathways to higher education.
Community green spaces and scenic orange groves
Dearborn Park has playgrounds and basketball courts. One of Northridge's remaining orange groves is located on the California State University campus, including 5 acres of Valencia orange trees and a duck pond.
Freeway access to the rest of Los Angeles County
Proximity to major freeways, like Interstate 405, gives Northridge residents access to everything Los Angeles County offers. The city of Los Angeles is about 25 miles away.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

I've been living in Northridge for the last 10 years and it fits the image of perfect suburban life to a T. The neighbors are friendly and the area is good. The grocery stores and retail are near each other, at least where I'm located. The schools in this area are great for children if you want them to get ahead.

Over-priced over-crowded suburb . CSUN has a beautiful theater & there are some decent restaurants but if u can find any other place in SoCal or California in general, move there instead!
