Norwood
Spacious lots and lake views
Calm subdivisions branch out from West Plank Road, Norwood’s main thoroughfare. Residential streets provide lots of surrounding greenery with small Cape Cods and ranch-style houses from the 1960s and 1970s on spacious lots of anywhere from a quarter to ten acres. These homes typically range from $80,000 to $150,000, some of which offer beautiful views of farms. Residents of the Lake Long Bow homeowners association can enjoy looking out at the 5-acre lake from their backyards. The lake is surrounded by 1970s split-level homes ranging from $175,000 to $225,000, many of which come with docks for fishing or launching boats and kayaks.Late night hangs outs at Bellevue Tap
Along with the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office and several manufacturing facilities, a few stores and restaurants line West Plank Road. Locals can shop for essentials at Dollar General and grab a snack at Casey’s, a regional chain general store serving pizza, wings and sandwiches. Bellevue Tap is a popular hangout spot where folks can watch sports and listen to live music over drinks and American grub. A few more bars can be found mingled with houses in the residential part of town, like Hogs & Dogs Saloon, where locals go to play pool and hit the slow machine. Both bars are open past midnight every day for those who like staying up late. Then there’s Fairview Farms, a homey staple serving fried chicken, corn fritters and other family-style meals to the community since 1952.Engineering studies at Limstone Community High
Students begin their studies at Norwood Primary School, which receives a C from Niche. They’ll head to C-graded Norwood Elementary School, which serves fifth through eighth-grade students, who then finish their degrees at Limestone Community High School, which gets a B-minus grade. Limestone Community partners with Project Lead the Way, which prepares students for engineering fields.Golfing, fishing and swimming at Timberlake Club
Residents of the Lake Long Bow community can enjoy year-round fishing. The lake is stocked with catfish, crappies, bluegills and bass, which can be caught from the banks or out on a boat. There are even more fishing opportunities at the member-owned Timberlake Club. The club features two lakes, one for fishing and the other for swimming. The swimming lake has a big sandy beach where people can sunbathe, play volleyball and relax by the firepit. There’s also a 10-foot from the beach into the lake. Timberlake also has a nine-hole golf course with open tee times, leagues and members-only tournaments. Non-members can golf one day a week and enjoy the lakes for a fee.Close to I-474 and General Wayne Downing Peoria International Airport
West Plank Road is a section of Illinois Route 116, which leads 7 miles to Downtown Peoria. Drivers also have easy access to Interstate 474. And with General Wayne Downing Peoria International Airport just three miles south, flyers can travel to 13 cities nationwide through Allegiant, United and American Airlines.
