Reclusive small town feel less than 10 miles from Peoria
Norwood’s sprawling woods and farmland, along with its small-town businesses, foster a slower-paced lifestyle than that of neighborhoods closer to Downtown Peoria, just 7 miles east. Mark Monge, Realtor with Jim Maloof Realty, who was born and raised in Peoria and services Norwood, says, “It’s country living in Norwood. You feel like you’re a million miles away from everything but can be in the city in minutes.”
Spacious lots and lake views
Calm subdivisions branch out from West Plank Road, Norwood’s main thoroughfare. Residential streets provide lots of surrounding greenery with small Cape Cods and ranch-style houses from the 1960s and 1970s on spacious lots of anywhere from a quarter to ten acres. These homes typically range from $80,000 to $150,000, some of which offer beautiful views of farms. Residents of the Lake Long Bow homeowners association can enjoy looking out at the 5-acre lake from their backyards. The lake is surrounded by 1970s split-level homes ranging from $175,000 to $225,000, many of which come with docks for fishing or launching boats and kayaks.

Locals can shop for essentials at Dollar General and grab a snack at Casey’s, a regional chain general store serving pizza, wings and sandwiches. A few more bars can be found mingled with houses in the residential part of town, like Hogs & Dogs Saloon, where locals go to play pool and hit the slow machine.
