Live oak forests surround the waterside homes in Oak Trail Shores. This shady community offers 1970s-era homes close to HOA amenities, such as a neighborhood swimming pool and private boat ramps on the shores of Lake Granbury. This body of water is one of three reservoirs formed by damming the Brazos River, providing waterfront activities minutes away from Granbury’s historic downtown center. "Granbury has lakefront living on the Brazos River with a cute downtown square. Granbury Live and the Granbury Opera House have musicals and concerts nearby," says Cathy Waters, Realtor at The Property Shop who has lived and sold homes in Granbury over the past 20 years. "There is a lot to do. You can keep yourself busy every day of the week."
Grassy lots surround Craftsman and ranch-style homes with HOA perks
Young forests hang over the low-lying grassland properties on the riverbanks, providing shade during the warm summer months. The area's single-family home styles include Craftsman and ranch-style homes, ranging from $100,000 to $460,000. Manufactured homes cost between $120,000 and $200,000. Oak Trail Owners Association requires monthly HOA fees and provides recreational amenities for residents. While most houses were originally built in the 1970s, there are some new homes built around 2024.
Boat ramps and a downtown beach on the Brazos River
One of the community features is Oak Trail Shores Pool, offering senior swim hours and pool parties in the neighborhood center. River access is a recreational draw, with three boat ramps and a fishing pier on the Brazos River. Camp Crucis is a Christian summer camp that's nearby and popular with families in the area. "They have summer camps where kids can learn archery, tennis, golf or swimming," says Juliet Smith, Realtor at The Property Shop and longtime Granbury resident. Also close to the neighborhood, Granbury City Beach Park has pavilions, kayak rentals and a sandy riverside beach next to the historic downtown area. "The city has built a beach right downtown with a roped-off swimming area, grills and tiki huts in the shade," Waters says.
Oak Trail Shores is in Hood County, which experiences extreme summer temperatures regularly exceeding triple digits in July, occasionally nearing 110°F. It is also in Tornado Alley, known for receiving high winds from the Gulf Coast.
Minutes away from vintage theaters and a historic opera house
Granbury is a short drive from Oak Trail Shores, with multiple theaters and performance venues. There are several attractions in downtown Granbury for residents to enjoy. The Brazos Drive-In theater is a vintage park-and-watch experience. Cinergy Cinemas has recliner seating and six big screens renovated for up-to-date quality in 2020. Built in the 1880s, Granbury Opera House hosts musicals, plays and concerts, while Granbury Live is the town's live music hall, often hosting cover bands in a BYOB setting.
Granbury schools earn B grades and provide career training
Granbury Independent School District serves more than 7,500 students across 10 schools. Students may attend Nettie Baccus Elementary School, which has an extended school day program with engaging activities, games, crafts and free time. Granbury Middle School is part of the Communities in Schools organization, which offers student resources, such as transportation, health insurance assistance and community service opportunities. Nettie Baccus Elementary and Granbury Middle School earn B grades from Niche. Granbury High School scores a B-plus and offers a workforce industry training program for students to learn about STEM-oriented careers and higher education options.
Tex-Mex and German fare in a downtown with supermarkets
One of the area's most popular eateries is Garcia's Mexican Restaurant, a short drive from Oak Trail Shores. It serves Tex-Mex favorites on a shady brick patio, like fajitas and margaritas. In the heart of downtown, Ketzler's Schnitzel Haus and Biergarten is a German pub with authentic beer, sausages and pretzels in a European-style interior. David's is a Brookshire Brothers supermarket about 2 miles south. Granbury has a Walmart Supercenter within a 15-minute drive.
Highways connect Oak Trail Shores to Fort Worth
Lipan Highway connects Oak Trail Shores to downtown Granbury, approximately 4 miles southeast. Weatherford is approximately 23 miles north, and Fort Worth is around 45 miles north on U.S. Highway 377, the region's primary expressway. The nearest emergency room is Lake Granbury Medical Center, within a 15-minute drive. Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport is about 70 miles north.
