Chabot Park is a residential neighborhood in the southeastern side of Oakland, about 12 miles from downtown. The community is surrounded by vast outdoor recreational spaces, from the Oakland Zoo to the Anthony Chabot Regional Park. “The real highlight of this neighborhood is that it’s next to all of these large parks and green spaces, and it’s also in the hills, which gives you some really nice views,” says Aimee Song, a longtime East Bay Realtor with Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage. “People who choose to live here tend to be ones that enjoy the outdoors because there’s so much of that around.”

Vast regional parks and the Oakland Zoo

The neighborhood’s namesake park, Anthony Chabot Regional Park, covers roughly 5,000 acres and features a vast amount of hiking and biking trails and an equestrian center. The site’s Bass Cove and Goldenrod Trail Loop is a 3.7-mile hike that overlooks Lake Chabot Reservoir, which is a popular spot for kayaking and fishing. The park also includes recreational activities, like a frisbee golf course, volleyball courts, horseshoe pits and the scenic, 27-hole Lake Chabot Golf Course open to the public. The Oakland Zoo is adjacent to the neighborhood and is home to over 850 native and exotic animals.

Nearby local dining and the Foothill Square Shopping Center

Although Chabot Park is strictly residential, there are local shopping and dining options nearby. Top Hatters, less than a mile away, is a Michelin-star restaurant with seasonal, made-from-scratch menu items. A more casual option is Red Pepper Pizza & Mediterranean Cuisine, serving Yemeni and Mediterranean cuisine as well as pizza varieties. The Foothill Square Shopping Center is less than two miles north, with a Foods Co. for groceries. It also features convenience stores, beauty shops and big box retailers like Ross.

Boo at the Zoo and Octoberfest events

Anthony Chabot Regional Park hosts a few events throughout the year, including an Octoberfest-style festival at the Lake Chabot Golf Course. Other community events can be found at the Oakland Zoo throughout the year, including Boo at the Zoo for Halloween. It features a scavenger hunt, plus a children’s costume contest.

Next to Interstate 580 and public bus stops

Interstate 580 borders the western side of the neighborhood. This major thoroughfare provides easy access for traveling around the city and into other big hubs like San Francisco and San Jose. Chabot Park also has multiple bus stops located along Golf Links Road, and the Oakland International Airport is about 6 miles west.
