Community comes first in Glenview
From its locally owned businesses to its walkable schools, Glenview prides itself on having a strong sense of community and suburban pace without sacrificing city amenities and natural escapes. “A lot of people want to live in the mix where they’re not necessarily car-dependent, and this is one of those neighborhoods,” says Deidre Joyner, a Realtor with Red Oak Realty and a longtime resident of the nearby Redwood Heights community. Students benefit from highly rated public elementary and middle schools right in the neighborhood, while commuters appreciate the proximity to public transportation.
Although many of the neighborhood’s homes have stood since the 1920s, good bones and recent renovations make it hard for some homeowners to leave. “People are thinking long and hard before giving up these properties,” some of which have been in the same family for decades, Joyner says. “It’s not in the hills, not in the fire zone, and that’s why people like it.” With Dimond Park nearby, residents can easily explore the canyon trails that lead into Joaquin Miller Park or take a hike through the majestic redwood forest. And with a dedicated local shopping district along Park Boulevard, restaurants and essential shops are just a short walk away.

Charming California bungalows
Ranging in price from under $700,000 for a two-bedroom fixer to nearly $2 million for a renovated five-bedroom, Glenview’s homes are eclectic in both style and size, appealing to a range of different buyers and budgets. Colorful Craftsman and California bungalows are common, with some dating back to the early 1920s. Wide sidewalks are bordered by creatively landscaped yards showcasing leafy shrubs and blooming florals in summer, and it’s not uncommon for neighbors to cultivate lush produce gardens or citrus trees in their backyards, and they’re always willing to share: “When I had an open house on the block, the neighbor had just harvested fresh herbs from their garden and left them out for people to take,” Joyner says.

Summers at Dimond Park are lively and busy, with a playground, tennis courts and outdoor pool attracting residents of all ages. Bordering Sausal Creek, the Dimond Canyon Trail leads north through the hilly, redwood-dotted brush to the historic Leimert Bridge, an elegant arched bridge that spans the Dimond Canyon and links Glenview with neighboring Oakmore.
The trail continues north by connecting with the Bridgeview Trail and across the freeway into Joaquin Miller Park, a 500-acre recreational haven with a popular dog park and plenty of shaded picnic areas. From there, it’s not much farther to Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park, where massive coast redwood trees tower over rustic trails.

I have loved living in Glenview for the past 12 years. It is a loving and lively community in which I have met many of my best friends. The neighborhood is full of families, most with 2-3 kids, many of whom I babysit for. There is also everything you need just blocks away, restaurants, markets, cleaners, and dog grooming. There is great access to all forms of commute. We are nearby several bus stations, friendly carpools, and very close to bart.
