Outdoor recreation capital
Southeast Ogden’s location at the base of the Wasatch Range allows for nearly endless exploration. “It’s an outdoor recreation capital,” says Doug Russell, an associate broker for Coldwell Banker Realty with more than 35 years of Ogden real estate experience. “There’s world-class skiing, Blue Ribbon fly fishing and you can easily get to seven of the most amazing National Parks.” Winding streets of the neighborhood run along the sloped foothills and connect to mountain trails. Private driveways and garages keep sidewalks and roadways clear, making it easy to get to nearby restaurants and grocery stores. The surrounding community offers events, a children’s museum and a historic downtown area.

Trails and skiing in the Wasatch Mountains
Residents who wish to explore outside can do so easily. Southeast Ogden streets meet up with trails leading to Beus Canyon, Strongs Canyon and Waterfall Canyon, to name just a few. The Weber County Sports Complex, which was used by Olympic curlers in 2002, offers hockey and figure skating lessons at their Ice Sheet on the Weber State University campus. Nearby Snowbasin Ski Resort, about a 20-mile drive into the mountains, was also used during the Olympics. The 3,000-acre resort offers alpine skiing and snowboarding; in the summer, visitors can enjoy an 18-hole mini golf course, hiking and biking along the 26 miles of trailway and gondola rides to the mountaintop.
The Ogden area is also popular among fishermen and families. At Glassman Pond, anglers can cast a line from the fishing pier and catch rainbow trout or channel catfish. The Ogden River has been classified as a Utah Blue Ribbon fishery, and as Russell says, “The Weber River is great for year-round fly fishing.” Families can visit Dinosaur Park and the Treehouse Children’s Museum, both around 5 miles from Southeast Ogden, for engaging exhibits, imaginative play and hands-on learning. In winter, Grandview Park is known as a local sledding spot. It also has a playground and a plastic rock-climbing structure.

Homes on the bench prized for their views
Homebuyers may find some two-bedroom condos listed between $200,000 and $300,000, and ranch-style residences from the mid-1900s might sell for around $400,000. New traditional-style places built around 2000, with five bedrooms or more, are generally priced between $700,000 and $850,000. “The southeastern corner of the neighborhood is considered more exclusive,” Russell says. “It’s known as ‘the bench,’ and homes there typically have more square footage and views overlooking downtown.” Houses in this area usually sell for close to $1 million.
