Green Pastures give you the best of country living while being close to downtown Oklahoma City.
Rural, yet close to downtown OKC
You don’t have to travel too far from downtown Oklahoma City to see a wide-open landscape that is synonymous with being in the western part of the United States. The aptly named Green Pastures is 12 miles east of downtown Oklahoma City. While in most urban areas, that distance will be in the middle of suburbia. Green Pastures provides isolation from all the hustle and bustle of the big city, while all the amenities of a metro area are close by. The seclusion and wide-open spaces are exactly the reason why Green Pastures Studio opened a film office in an old school building in 2020 to operate a television and film production studio. In addition to the picturesque settings, there’s the nearby North Canadian River that’s flowing by. Some classes are taught at the film studio to explain the essentials of becoming a great movie producer and director.
A rural and suburban housing mix
There are various options available for home buyers in the market. Some prefer to purchase lots where they can build their dream homes while others opt for homes that already sit on large plots. For instance, a ranch-style home is available on 10 acres, complete with two horse barns and a covered front porch. It features three bedrooms, two bathrooms and about 1,500 square feet of living space. However, such homes with ample land may come with a price tag of almost $1 million. On the other hand, there are newer homes that resemble typical suburban houses with close neighbors. These can be purchased for around $200,000, like the small cluster of homes located near the intersection of 36th Street and Smith Drive.

Green space in Green Pastures
Minnis Lakeview Park has been one of the outdoor recreation destinations in the neighborhood since 1968 when the nearby city of Choctaw acquired the land and named it after a pioneer settler in the area. While there is no lake currently, the depression in the southeast portion of the park was where a lake once was. The park has children’s play equipment, a splash pad for cooling off on hot Oklahoma summers and plenty of green space for games. Residents love the natural scenery at Progressive Community Park, with 11 acres of green space, a basketball court, a playground and plenty of parking.

The goat of burger joints
At the corner of 36th Street and Hiwassee Road is a small building with a mural of a man enjoying a burger right by an image of a goat’s head. Snibbles specializes in goat burgers, but also has chicken and turkey burgers as well. At the back of the restaurant, there is a group of picnic tables under a shelter. There is no indoor seating in the restaurant. A Walmart Supercenter is about 10 minutes away in the Choctaw area for grocery shopping. Crest Food locations are located to the west in the Spencer area.

The bus comes to the country
Despite the rural setting, several stops along 36th Street are part of the Metro Transit Bus system, that head downtown. With so much of the neighborhood being rural, there aren’t many sidewalks since houses are spread out in many cases. A car is needed to get around. It will take 20 minutes and another 10 minutes to get to Will Rogers World Airport.
