Highlander Community South is located just six miles south of downtown OKC.
Central Southside living
Highlander Community South sits in nearly the dead-center of Southside Oklahoma City. From here, downtown is less than 6 miles away. So is Will Rogers World Airport. Home prices hover close to $100,000 below the median for the metro. But none of those compelling reasons are the primary draws for homebuyers to the neighborhood. “There are a lot of employers around here, too, but I will say that it’s more the fact that families have been here for generations,” says Eric Avalos, an OKC local and Realtor with Metro First Realty of Edmond. Domenack Real Estate Broker Jorge Domenack, also an OKC local, agrees. “Southside is changing a lot, but what’s constant is the culture. There’s a lot of Latino influence, in the stores and the restaurants around here, and that’s what people are looking for when they’re looking to buy here,” he says.
Competitive home prices
Prices for these ranch, Minimal Traditional and bungalow-style homes run anywhere from $100,000 for modest two-bedrooms in need of updating to more than $225,000 for fully renovated three and four-bedrooms. Domenack says that most sell in about a month, which is on par with the average for the surrounding city. “They’re reasonably priced compared to the rest of the city and they don’t stay on the market all that long,” he says. Avalos adds that homes close to main thoroughfares, like Western Avenue on the neighborhood’s east side, sell even quicker. “They’re close to more of the businesses and things that people love, so it’s the convenience that makes the interest so high,” he says.
